Three Year 11 pupils have taken first, third and fifth place individually in the weekly competition organised by the 'This is Language' website.

Pupils across the UK answer questions based on their comprehension of videos in French, German and Spanish where native speakers talk about a range of GCSE topics.

By the end of last week's competition, Mr Latimer's class was narrowly beaten into third place nationally, with his 22 pupils answering no fewer than 6,114 questions correctly between them.

Certificates were awarded to the class, and also to the three members of Exeter School who finished on the national leader board last week as having answered the most questions correctly.

Lucas Orchard Clark took first place in the country, scoring 1550, Sebastian Lewis is in third place, scoring 1338, and Rory Gladstone is in fifth place, scoring 1080.

Head of Modern Foreign Languages, Mr Mick Latimer, commented: 'The commitment to progress all these pupils have shown is exceptional, but their achievement is all the more remarkable given that the points were accrued in a single week.

"They have set themselves a very high standard to maintain, and I am sure that all pupils will reap the rewards of their work in this term's GCSE examinations."
