Minor gathering set to be a major event

A charity classic car show in Exmouth is expecting to attract over 200 cars when it opens the gate on Sunday 20th August, writes David Morgan.

The annual Exmouth Classic Vehicle Gathering is staged by the Devon Branch of the Morris Minor Owners Club (MMOC) and takes place on the Imperial Recreation Ground, next to Exmouth Rugby Club, between 10am and 4pm.

Devon Wildlife Trust is inviting families to ‘bee creative in the garden’ at a special wild bee family fun day next week. On August 3, the charity will be opening the gates to the Cricklepit Mill wildlife garden for a family event that aims to celebrate bumblebees and solitary bees, heroes of the pollinator world. Children will have the chance to create a range of bee themed craft items, including alder bees to hang in the garden, bee mobiles, badge making and bee jewellery. Great Big Walk visits Addaction RISE

WALKERS of Eden Project’s Great Big Walk started their day’s journey at Addaction RISE in Exeter, sharing breakfast with volunteers, clients and staff at the drug and alcohol charity to hear how it supports the community.

The Great Big Walk started at Batley, where Jo Cox was MP, and five different teams headed off on a 21 day journey to Cornwall, London, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Along their route they are stopping at community projects and initiatives to spend time with and celebrate the people who go the extra mile to bring communities together.

THERE will be a celebratory feel when the 40th anniversary Dartmoor Folk Festival takes place in the foothills of Dartmoor at South Zeal, near Okehampton, from Friday to Sunday, August 11, 12 and 13.

It was 40 years ago that the festival was founded by the late Bob Cann, who lived in the parish of South Zeal. He had the dream of a folk event on his doorstep that would help to revive and preserve the music, song and dance traditions of Dartmoor.
