Castle Drogo will be the backdrop for a creative programme of exhibitions and performances celebrating the creative spirit of Dartmoor from Saturday 14 May until Sunday 19 June. There will be artist’s exhibitions, workshops, theatre and a costume display by the students of Plymouth College of Art. The event launched on Friday 13 May with an open evening, including live music, games and a chance to see ‘Trousseau’, a costume display by the students of Plymouth College in the castle. Fire crews tackle garage blaze in Exmouth

Fire crews were called to a fire at a garage in Exmouth this afternoon (Saturday 14 May).

Two appliances from Exmouth were sent to the incident in Hulham Road just after 4pm.

On arrival crews found the fire within the garage involving a sit on lawn mower. Crews tackled the fire using a hose reel and a covering jet.

The lawnmower was completely destroyed by fire with the garage and contents 70% damaged by fire

Home lift raises retired amputee's spirits

Two years ago, retired Exeter policeman Brian Kendall had to have his leg amputated after it went septic following an operation below the knee. Along with the obvious emotional and physical distress it caused the then 73-year-old, it meant that he and his wife, Mary, had to make some major changes to their home.

Confined to a wheelchair, Brian could not use the upstairs of their house for the first year so the couple had to put a bed in the living room and turn the space into a bedroom. After another 12 months, he was able, with the help of Mary, to manage the stairs sitting down,...

SW Regional Athletics Championships come to Exeter

Over 60 athletes from clubs and schools across the region will take part in the Typhoo South West regional athletics event at the Exeter Arena on Thursday 19th May 2016.

Typhoo and national charity the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) have teamed up to ensure more disabled athletes have access to participation opportunities across England.

Exeter researchers recognised among UK’s best

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) has recognised another researcher at the University of Exeter Medical School as being one of the most outstanding health researchers in the UK.

Professor Stuart Logan, Cerebra Professor of Paediatric Epidemiology, has been made NIHR Senior Investigator for his commitment to the field. It means the Medical School now has four professors recognised with the NIHR’s prestigious title.

Pop-up museum encourages conversation

Shoppers can contribute to the collection at a new pop-up museum in Exeter city centre, where the guide is a talking doll.

The Museum of Contemporary Commodities has been set up to prompt conversations about data, place, trade and values in today’s commodity culture, and the impact of this on future generations.

Shoppers can add items they value to an online collection and take a quiz that tells them what kind of shopper they are.
