In the week that we celebrated Grandparents’ Day, a family lawyer from East Devon has spoken of the plight of grandparents who lose contact with their grandchildren as a result of family breakdown, feud or bereavement.
In the UK, grandparents don’t have an automatic right to contact with their grandchildren. However, they can ask the Court for permission to apply for a Child Arrangements Order to see them. It is rare for an application by a grandparent to be refused, unless it can be shown not to be in the child’s best interests.

Police are investigating the shooting of a Peregrine Falcon in South Devon, causing it injury.
The bird of prey was found at a coastal location near Ipplepen on 23rd August 2016 with an injury to its wing. Examination of the bird by a local vet revealed that it had been shot with an air rifle pellet causing fractures to the wing.
There was a coded ring on the bird’s leg that had been placed there whilst in the nest a few weeks after hatching by a local ornithologist and British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) volunteer.

Police are advising shopkeepers and business owners in South Devon to be on their guard after several instances of fake Bank of England £50 notes being passed have been reported in Newton Abbot.
So far two different serial numbers have been identified as being linked to these counterfeit £50 notes: HK10 234322 and BC02 245667. Serial numbers on genuine banknotes are unique, so if you have a note carrying this number it is liable to be counterfeit. There may be other serial numbers linked to the batch of counterfeit notes.

Police are seeking witnesses to a serious assault in Exeter after a man suffered a broken leg.
The 19-year-old victim was assaulted by another man at a burger van on Summerland Street between 2am and 2.30am on Sunday 18 September.
The offender punched the man in the face and threw him to the floor, causing the serious injury to his leg. The victim, from Exeter, was treated in hospital for his injuries.
Police are investigating the assault and seeking the suspect who is described as white, around 6ft tall and of stocky build.
