The University of Exeter’s a cappella band Semi-Toned is topping their win of a nationwide singing competition by releasing a festive medley.

The all-male group, which recently won the BBC2 primetime show The Choir: Gareth’s Best in Britain, is today releasing their charity single A Very Semi-Toned Christmas. It features some of the best known and loved hits of the Christmas season, including classics by Bing Crosby, Mariah Carey, Wham! And Elvis Presley.

Exeter College has been shortlisted for four coveted awards including ‘College of the Year’ and ‘Teacher of the Year’ accolades, in the Times Educational Supplement Further Education Awards 2017.

Exeter BID’s Welcome Team is celebrating its first year in the city with a host of impressive statistics.

The Welcome Team was introduced in December last year to offer assistance to visitors, residents and BID levy payers in Exeter. The Welcome Team members, Myra, Darren and Paul provide the city with a ‘seven days a week’ service and work throughout the year except Christmas Day.

Had you been in Exeter at 2.30pm on Saturday 10 December, you would have been witness to a congregation of over 700 Freemasons with their families in the Cathedral.

They were led by their Provincial Grand Master Rt. W. Bro. Ian Kingsbury JP in a celebration of the coming of Christmas.

There was a sight to see around Exeter on Sunday 4 December for those doing some Christmas shopping as motorbikers dressed as Santas, Mrs Santa, elves and a christmas tree went through the city in convoy, taking part in a festive ride with a difference!

The riders were on their way from their meeting place at Exeter Services to deliver Christmas toys and donations to youngsters with life-limiting illnesses at the Little Bridge South West Children’s Hospice in North Devon.

Walking and cycling trail to launch in Cranbrook

A walking and cycling trail is being launched in Cranbrook next month (January) to help local residents explore the area.

The “Discover Cranbrook: The Long Orchard Trail” is being established by Devon County Council, East Devon District Council, Cranbrook Town Council and Cranbrook New Community Partners Consortium to encourage people to get active and find out what’s on their doorstep.

Starting at the entrance of the Country Park at Long Orchard, the trail includes five posts which feature different rubbings – four around the park and a fifth at Cranbrook Train Station....

Cabinet agrees to put a preferred route for A30 improvements to Government

Devon County Council’s Cabinet (Wednesday 14 December) agreed to propose a preferred route to government for a £180 million improvement scheme for the A30.

Councillors approved recommendations to put the “Orange Route”, as modified through consultation, to the Secretary of State as the preferred route, for his view and potential implementation.

It follows a public consultation throughout August and September during which the County Council presented three route options (Orange Route, Blue North and Blue South), to improve the A30 between Honiton and Devonshire Inn. More...
