Teignbridge warns of council tax scam

Teignbridge District Council is warning residents to be vigilant after a council tax scam was reported.

Fraudsters are sending scam emails and making phone calls saying residents may be eligible for a refund on their council tax.

Teignbridge is urging people not to disclose details or submit anything online when asked. A small number have been reported to Teignbridge which is now appealing for people to remain aware and 'if in doubt, check it out'.

If people are not 100% sure that the message has come from us, don’t open it or give information over the phone....

Exmouth schoolchildren take a trip on the Avocet Line

Pupils from Marpool Primary School in Exmouth took a free train trip on the Avocet Line which links Exmouth and Exeter, to visit the Royal Albert Memorial Museum on 30th November 2016. The trip was organised by the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership under their “Train trips for schoolchildren” initiative. This aims to introduce more children to rail travel and is run in conjunction with Great Western Railway, who provided free travel for the children and teachers.

Sexual assault on train to London

Detectives from British Transport Police are appealing for information after a woman was sexually assaulted whilst travelling on a train between Plymouth and London Paddington.

Just after 9am on Friday 11 November, a 21-year-old woman boarded a train at Plymouth station, bound for London. During her journey a man sat next to her and then touched her inappropriately. She challenged the man who then moved to a different seat.

He then left the train at Paddington and entered the London Underground.

Churches in Devon are inviting their local communities to help bring hope to some of the UK’s most vulnerable children this festive season by supporting their Christingle celebration in aid of The Children’s Society.

A number of services are being held at the end of November, throughout December and beyond, and are open to everyone. All money raised will go towards providing life-changing support for vulnerable children and young people and to make sure their voices are heard.

Volunteers at community events across Devon and Torbay have repaired dozens of broken electrical items this autumn as part of an initiative to reduce waste.

From September to November nine repair events were held, one in every district and Torbay, giving members of the public the chance to have electrical appliances - including computers - fixed for free.

Thirty skilled menders, including many local businesses such as Any Fix South West, volunteered for the events organised by Recycle Devon, a partnership of 10 Devon councils, in conjunction with local community groups....

Essential work for Cathedral roof funded by WWI Centenary Grant

It was announced last week that Exeter Cathedral has been awarded £70,000 in the final phase of grants from the First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund. The money will be used to fund the urgent removal of asbestos from roof spaces above the Cathedral’s Quire aisles and north porch, allowing the safe inspection and maintenance of spaces which have been inaccessible without strict control in recent years.
