Communities across Devon are being urged to remain calm but alert following terror attacks in London on Saturday night (June 3).

More than 50,000 households in East Devon are just a few weeks away from being able to recycle more items than ever before when a new improved weekly recycling collection is introduced district-wide by the council from Monday June 12.

Body found at Exeter Quay confirmed as missing Dex Johnston

Police have confirmed that the body found in the water at Exeter Quay on Thursday is that of missing Dex Johnston.

The 24-year-old was last seen at Exe Bridge in Exeter in the early hours of Sunday morning (28 May).

A police spokesman said: “The death is currently being treated as unexplained whilst enquiries are ongoing and police await the outcome of post-mortem results.”

Businesses in Devon spent the whole of March competing to be top of the leaderboard for the Big Devon March, a campaign designed to get more working aged people walking. Between them, they walked a staggering 24,901 miles, the equivalent of walking the circumference of the earth, surpassing all the original expectations.

Heavitree paddling pools set to reopen

The paddling pools at Heavitree Pleasure Ground are set to reopen this weekend after the City Council had to carry out essential maintenance work.

The popular pools will reopen again on Saturday (3 June) from 10am until 7pm. They have been repainted with a grippier surface following reports of some children slipping over while playing.

Devon County Show receives Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services

The Devon County Show is to be awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services, it was announced by Buckingham Palace today (June 2).

The prestigious honour recognises the outstanding contribution made by more than 400 Show stewards to the running of the largest annual event in the county.
