LETTER TO EDITOR I am writing to ask all readers in Exeter to join us this October for the UK’s biggest pink fundraiser, wear it pink. Wear it pink, Breast Cancer Now’s flagship fundraiser, takes place on Friday 20 October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to raise money for life-saving breast cancer research.

To get involved, all you have to do is ditch your everyday colours and pull on some pink and fundraise to help Breast Cancer Now achieve its aim that by 2050 everyone who develops breast cancer will live.

Lack of brisk walking puts Devon adults at risk

Findings from Public Health England (PHE) warn that thousands of adults aged 40-60 living in Devon are putting their health at risk by not managing a brisk ten minute walk each month.

As part of their new One You physical activity campaign, Public Health England have launched their new free Active 10 app encouraging adults to take one brisk ten minute walk a day. According to PHE research, this reduces the risk of early death by 15%, and contributes to their wider physical activity guidance of 150 minutes of moderate-vigorous exercise each week.

As people take to their cars this August Bank Holiday, Dogs Trust, which has a Rehoming Centre in Ilfracombe, is launching ‘The Houndway Code’ a car safety awareness campaign after new research revealed that 17% of dog owners regularly travel with their dog unrestrained in the passenger seat of their car and 5% even reaching into the backseat to interact with their dog whilst at the wheel.

East Devon sporting heroes honoured at Chairman’s Garden Party

Sports champions from across East Devon were honoured last month at the East Devon District Council’s Chairman’s Garden Party held at Knowle in Sidmouth.

The 14 sporting heroes were nominated by their town and parish councils and they were invited to the party to thank them for their invaluable contribution to their local community.

Cycle September events at Cranbrook

Free guided cycle rides and bike hire will be offered in Cranbrook as part of Devon County Council’s Cycle September campaign.

An expanding Devon business is relocating to the Okehampton East Business Park to achieve its plans for growth.

Forthglade, the Devon based natural pet food manufacturer established in Winkleigh over 46 years ago, has completed the purchase of two plots at the business park and will be developing a new manufacturing facility at the site. The South West of England is home to some of Brits' ultimate “happy places”, according to a new study.

New research from SACO, The Serviced Apartment Company polled UK holidaymakers to discover the places in the UK which evoke special memories and ultimately make us “happy”.

The poll of 1,500 British adults revealed that Cornwall is our top ‘go-to’ holiday destination for making happy memories, voted for by almost one in five Brits. The Lake District was in second place, with Devon also featuring in the top three.

Police appeal after Sidmouth burglary

Police are investigating a burglary at a property on Mill Street in Sidmouth which occurred between 9.30pm on Monday 21 August and 8am on Tuesday 22 August 2017.

The offender has entered the property through a window and taken several items before exiting through the same window.
