Research reveals how altered brain networks can lead to seizures, offering new treatment strategies for epilepsy

An international team of scientists, led by mathematicians from the University of Exeter’s Living Systems Institute, have developed a ground-breaking new method that can identify regions of brain tissue most likely to generate seizures in people with epilepsy.

The innovative new method, which utilizes mathematical modelling, offers the potential to complement existing clinical approaches and could lead to enhanced surgical outcomes.

The new research is published in leading scientific journal, PLOS Computational Biology on August 17 2017.

Outstanding GCSE results for Exeter School

Exeter School pupils, parents and staff are delighted with this year's set of consistently high GCSE results.

81% of all grades were A* or A and 50.4% were A*. Seventy pupils scored 8 or more A*/A grades with 41 registering 10 or more A*/A grades.

The 7-18 independent school is also celebrating its 20th anniversary of full co-education this year.

Blundell's School is delighted to announce another set of excellent GCSE results, which once again exceed the national average despite the recent climate of changing educational pressures. EDDC signs agreement with developers for new watersports centre in Exmouth

An important milestone has been reached with the signing of a Development Agreement between East Devon District Council and sustainable property company, Grenadier Estates, which will see the creation of a locally focused watersports centre on Exmouth seafront.

Fourth place in World Rowing Junior Championships for Exeter School pupil

Exeter School Sixth Former Phoebe Campbell has taken fourth place in the World Rowing Junior Championships.

The Upper Sixth Former represented the GB Rowing Team at the 2017 World Rowing Junior Championships held in Trakai, Lithuania in August. The crew trained together at Pangbourne and Caversham before flying out to Lithuania three days before the competition. Exeter MP officially opens beer garden at Exeter care home

The Old Rectory Care home based in Exeter, announces it has been rated ‘overall outstanding’ by Care Quality Commission (CQC), in four domains: effective, responsive, caring and well-led, and is one of only three nursing homes in the area to be awarded this high-rating.

Drug gang members jailed for 61 years

Three men from Birmingham have been sentenced to a total of 61 years in prison for kidnap, rape of a woman, false imprisonment and the stabbing of a man in Exeter.

Abdirahman Abukar, aged 19, of Alum Rock Road, Birmingham, was sentenced to 23 years, Abdirahman Kadir, 21, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 23 years and Ibrahim Mohammed, 18, was sentenced to 15 years in prison at Exeter Crown Court today [Tuesday 22 August].
