New ‘mindfulness trail’ launched at popular nature reserve

An East Devon beauty-spot has become the venue for a new ‘mindfulness trail’, promising visitors the chance to get away from some of the worst stresses and strains of modern life. The trail has been established at Devon Wildlife Trust’s Bystock Pools nature reserve, in East Devon, and is the brainchild of local woman Clare Carter. The 46 year old from Exmouth created the mindfulness trail because she wanted to help other people to “slow down and switch off” from the demands of 21st century living. Premiership Rugby champion, Jack Yeandle, returns to his QE roots

On Monday 27th November, Premiership Rugby star and Ex QE Student, Jack Yeandle came back to Queen Elizabeth’s School in Crediton to deliver a Rugby Masterclass.

As part of QE’s afterschool Rugby Club, Jack led the session with QE’s Rugby stars of the future. Jack also reminisced about the start of his Rugby playing career representing QE. Students found it fascinating to hear him speak of the last game that he played for the school, on the Barnfield pitch against Torrington school, as a Full back rather than his current position as a hooker!

Tractor stolen from The Donkey Sanctuary

The Devon based charity, The Donkey Sanctuary, has had one of its John Deere tractors stolen between 3:30pm on Saturday 25 November and 9:00am on Sunday 26 November.

Devon and Cornwall Police are investigating the theft of the John Deere 6220 Loader Tractor, registration number, WA06 FVO. The tractor has a bucket on the front and a new scraper on the back.

Magdalen Road Christmas Fair

The popular Christmas Fair returns for the seventh year.

The road will be closed and the fantastic shops and restaurants of Magdalen Road will spill out onto the street, joined by 50 stalls from all over the West Country.

There will be street-food, drink, live entertainment from bands and singers, fairground rides, presents to buy, music, hot wine and lots of other Christmassy food and much jollity.

Overnight closures on Bridge Road in Exeter this week

Overnight closures are planned for Bridge Road in Exeter over two evenings this week.

The road will be closed overnight from 8.30pm tonight (Tuesday 28 November) to 5.30am tomorrow morning, and during the same hours overnight tomorrow evening (Wednesday 29 November). The closures will enable work to be carried out on bridge expansion joints, as well as resurfacing and drainage cleaning. The work is weather dependant. SWIG Finance lends £10m to South West start-ups and helps Exeter shop owners open their second store

Regional finance company SWIG Finance has passed the £10 million milestone for loans given to new businesses around the South West under the government’s Start Up Loans scheme.

The organisation has supported 1,245 entrepreneurs throughout the region since the national scheme started in September 2012.

The total includes 149 loans to Devon start-ups, worth £1.12 million.
