Council keen to hear from experienced food festival operators interested in running an exciting and innovative food and drink opportunity as part of the Queen’s Drive regeneration project

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a quality food and drink operator to make their mark at East Devon District Council’s Queen’s Drive site, the area of Exmouth’s seafront that is earmarked for development as part of the Exmouth vision to regenerate the town and its economy.

Thousands of vulnerable and older people at risk in Devon this Winter

A campaign to help the most vulnerable in our communities to stay warm and well this winter has launched. The Surviving Winter appeal asks those who feel they can, to consider donating to those who desperately need extra support during the cold winter months. Many previous donors have donated their Winter Fuel payment if they don’t need it but want to make sure it is well used.

RAMM strikes gold!

Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum has won Gold in the 2017 Devon Tourism Awards for Large Attraction. RAMM also scooped a Silver award for Access and Inclusivity and Bronze award for Artistic, Cultural and Learning Attraction.

The award ceremony was held in Plymouth Guildhall and hosted by travel commentator Simon Calder and special guest, Polar Explorer Anne Daniels. 76 awards were presented to winners from 25 categories, including recognition for restaurants, hotels, attractions, guided tours, holiday parks and many more.

New chief for Youth Games

Sports charity the South West Youth Games Trust has appointed its first ever Chief Executive. Chris Broadbent, who has previously worked for Team GB and for the London Olympics has joined the Trust with an aim to increase activity levels among young people across Devon and Cornwall. The charity was created in 2015 to save the Devon Youth Games and has since grown its main event into the South West Rotary Youth Games, expanding into Cornwall as well as every Devon district. RD&E neurological ward receives £1,250 from local Freemasons

Bolham Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital has received a donation of £1,250 from a group of Devon Freemasons as part of their bi-annual WAKE Fund presentation.

Every spring and autumn Freemasons from around Devon meet to give support totalling in excess of £50,000 to local charities and organisations throughout the county who are in need of assistance. The money is raised by the WAKE Fund, a trust conceived by the Right Worshipful Brother William Alexander Kneel, Provincial Grand Master from 1970 to 1984.

Police appeal for witnesses after road rage incident in Exeter

Police are appealing to the public following allegations of a road rage incident in Exeter.

The incident occurred between 7.50-8am on Wednesday 22 November on Cumberland Way, Exeter. The victim driving a BT Openreach Transit van, the suspect a red BMW.

Both vehicles had come through the traffic lights at the junction with Main Road, Pinhoe and merged from two lanes into one, travelling towards Sowton.

The suspect who was driving the BMW got out of his vehicle and made threats, including hitting and head-butting and punching the window of the BT van.

More Awards For Devon Attraction - The Bear Trail

Muddy obstacle course, The Bear Trail, which was established to get families enjoying good old-fashioned fun, has upped its honours count – picking up four amazing awards from Primary Times magazine.

The trail, which is based between Exeter and Cullompton, has won the category for Best Party Venue and been voted runner up in the categories of Best Family Attraction, Best Outdoor Play Activity Centre and been declared Overall Runner-up in the entire competition.

Oxfam Fundraising Group targets first £1,000 with Christmas quiz

The Exeter Oxfam fundraising team are holding a Christmas-themed pub quiz on 5th December, 7:30pm at the Puerto Lounge on Exeter Quay.

This is the third quiz that the group have held since getting started in January and they are aiming to make it the biggest and best yet, with their goal to reach £1000 total in 2017.

Entry is £4 or £3 for students, and the money raised will go directly to Oxfam’s work around the world, including the current emergencies in Yemen and with the Rohingya in Bangladesh.
