A new fundraising activity aimed at getting schoolchildren more active has been launched for the New Year.

Skipathon is aimed at schoolchildren across Devon and Cornwall and will take place 22-26 January. The fun, simple activity encourages schools from across the region to take part in sponsored skipping challenges to help raise funds for the South West Youth Games Trust.

The Trust is striving to create a happier, healthier South West by delivering a broad range of innovative, inspirational and accessible sport and physical activity experiences for young people.

Schools are being encouraged to take part either as part of their PE lessons or as an extra-curricular activity. Pupils can take part in speed challenges, endurance challenges or multiple-participant challenges. All they need are a teacher to co-ordinate, skipping ropes and loads of enthusiasm.

To find out to take part and how to fundraise, please see www.southwestyouthgames.co.uk/skipathon and to donate, visit www.justgiving.com/swyouthgames

South West Youth Games Trust will provide sports equipment prizes for the Devon and Cornwall schools that raise the most sponsorship.
