Former Exeter Chiefs star Matt Jess and GB cycling international Lauren Dolan have joined the South West Rotary Youth Games as official ambassadors. The Cornwall-raised Jess spent nine seasons with the Chiefs, a period that included promotion to the Premiership, an Anglo-Welsh Cup Triumph and 2017’s famous Premiership title victory. Newton Abbot-based 18 year old Dolan has represented GB at the European Youth Olympics and World Championships – in the latter she bravely completed the time trial event despite a serious crash. New parking restrictions for campervans to come into force in Exmouth

New on-street parking restrictions for campervans and motorhomes come into effect in Exmouth from Monday (2 July).

The increasing number of motorhomes and similar types of vehicles using Exmouth seafront for extended stays has been causing growing concern among local residents and Exmouth Town Council in recent years.

The Department of Sport and Health Sciences (St Luke’s Campus) has been awarded an Athena SWAN Silver Award, recognising its commitment to advancing the careers of women in science through addressing gender inequality, tackling unequal gender representation across the student and staff population and improving career progression for female academics.

An Earth observation company and ecommerce gift business have won this year’s Fast Track to Growth programme.

Pixalytics won the smaller company category, with House of Harris winning in the larger company category, at a final pitch event at Plymouth Science Park, the culmination of an intensive free business support programme for more than 20 Devon businesses.

The sky is the limit for Exeter Lions Club President Julian Chadwick who is taking up the challenge of lifetime and making a tandem skydive from 10,000 feet in aid of The Lions International Blood Research Appeal (LIBRA) – a charity which raises funds to tackle blood cancers.

Julian is set to make his sponsored jump on his 72nd birthday on 1st July 2018 at the Dunkeswell Aerodrome. He is making the special birthday jump in memory of the well-known Exeter Lion President Mike Welsh who sadly died of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.

This summer, Castle Drogo is exhibiting a collection of prints, drawings and sculptures by Royal Academician Peter Randall-Page.

The prints and drawings focus on observations of the natural world and include delicate linocuts of botanical and animal subjects. Recent prints such as Honeysuckle, Fig Tree, Spiders and Frogs are shown alongside Peter’s early studies of exquisite seed pods. One of the highlights of the exhibition is Randall-Page’s 7m wide ‘Rorschach Screen’ with its mirror image panels of drawings that reference the bi-lateral symmetry of Rorschach ink blots. Dartmoor artist Shirley Kirkcaldy is celebrating after her work has been selected to be represented by a new Devon gallery.
