Citizens Advice Exeter thanks volunteers for making a huge difference to people’s lives

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, is celebrating its volunteers who dedicate their time to solving people’s problems and making a difference to their lives.

Volunteers Week, which runs from 1-7 June, recognises the contribution that volunteers across the UK make, and the charity is highlighting the work of its own team, which helps people in the community struggling with debt, housing, benefit and employment issues among other issues.

With over 100 volunteers, giving up 674 hours each week, Citizens Advice Exeter was able to help 25641 people with 41058...

RGB will be turning people blue for charity

RGB Building Supplies is delighted to be supporting Children’s Hospice South West’s charity Rainbow Run by sponsoring its blue paint station.

Taking place on Saturday 9th June at Exeter’s Westpoint, 2,000 runners are expected to take part in the fundraising event and run, walk or jog their way around the 5k course, meeting various coloured paint stations along the way.

Additionally, participants will be able to enjoy the event village where there will also be face painters, music and entertainment, and RGB will be hosting games .

Honiton gymnasts 24-hour cycle for international trips

Gymnasts and supporters from Honiton Gymnastics Club are undertaking a sponsored 24-hour cycling marathon to help raise funds for two international acrobatics competitions - in Lisbon and Turin.

They will be attempting to cycle 910 miles – the approximate distance from Honiton to Turin – in a 24 hour period on static turbo trainer bikes. The bikes are provided by Dereck Cutler, who owns Dc Cycleworks (bicycle training, servicing and guiding).

University and NHS team up to launch pioneering Academy of Nursing

A new Academy of Nursing has launched to combine academic rigour with NHS expertise to raise standards of care.

The University of Exeter has joined forces with patients and local NHS organisations as part of a collaboration that will support existing nurses, ensuring they are in close contact with the science of nursing and the latest approaches through seminars, mentoring systems and conferences.

Honiton gymnasts take medals at national finals

Eight gymnasts from Honiton Gymnastics Club represented the south west region at the National Development Plan (NDP) Finals at the weekend, and each one of the returned with medals after finishing in podium places.

The NDP Finals saw area champions from 13 UK regions meeting at Fenton Manor in Stoke-on-Trent to battle it out for top honours.

All three partnerships from Honiton Gymnastics Club qualified for the finals after winning their categories at the South West Acrobatic Prelims in Bristol in February.

Pupils' work shortlisted for national award

The artwork of two Exeter School pupils has received recognition in a prestigious national award.

William Dean and Lydia Brookes-Ferrari's biological specimen drawings made the shortlist of the Nancy Rothwell Competition.

The national competition is an opportunity for pupils to combine their artistic talents with detailed observations and anatomical knowledge.

Exeter School's Art and Biology departments encouraged pupils to enter the national competition run by the Society of Biology.

Warrens Bakery are delighted to announce the launch of their campaign to find their first ever ‘Young Budding Baker of the Year’ which opened for nominations on Wednesday 23rd May.

Now in its 4th year, the Paignton Harbour Festival, Torbay’s friendliest family seafood and music festival takes place at the harbour on Saturday 28th July, founded by Crabstock’s Adrian Bartlett and Alan Henderson, Operations Manager for the Blue Sea Food Company, (formerly Browse Brothers) with their committee including Paignton’s Harbourmaster Simon Pinder and local Paignton townspeople to raise awareness of the harbour area and money for the Brixham Fishermans Mission and South Devon and Channel Shellfishermen Association.
