Fire service called to outbuilding fire in Bow

Three fire appliances from Crediton and North Tawton were mobilised to a report of an outbuilding involving a fish smoker on Bow High Street, Crediton.

Upon arrival crews found a small fire involving contents of a two storey outbuilding.

They donned breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire was accidental and was caused by a fish smoker catching a wooden bench on fire. There was 10 per cent fire and smoke damage and the fire was extinguished using two BA and one hose reel jet.

Crediton Health Watch scheme wins police praise

The Crediton police team have congratulated the industrious group of volunteers who have set up the Newton-St-Cyres Neighbourhood Health Watch community scheme.

Since September this year, nearly 40 members of the local community have dedicated themselves to getting the scheme off the ground.

PC Keith Bradshaw and PCSO Lisa Crocker have worked closely with the group to help support its work. They have attended regular meetings, liaising closely with the local community and its volunteers to help ensure a smooth launch.

Commuters travelling between Exeter and Crediton faced major disruption today after the A377 was completely flooded.

Only HGVs, tractors and the occasional 4X4 driver like the one pictured above managed to make it through.

Buses full of passengers were forced to turn around and one lorry became stuck for a few minutes when it slid into a ditch.

Traffic was backed up through Crediton and in the other direcation towards Exeter.

It was scene repeated across the county after a night of torrential rain.

The Book Shop on Crediton High Street took a big step towards a new social enterprise era on Saturday 17th November with the launch of the share issue to create Crediton Community Bookshop.

The enterprise has already gained outstanding support. Patrons have been announced as Dame Babette Cole , Michael Morpurgo , Mal Peet and William Trevor . Speaking about them earlier this year, Michael Morpurgo said: "Every town needs a great book shop. Crediton has one. Long may it continue!"

Passed peacefully away at the Exeter Hospice on July 25th 2015, aged 29 years.

A loving husband, brother and friend to many, who will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral service at Crediton Parish Church on Friday August 7th at 3pm, followed by a private cremation, family only to attend.

FLEMMING Jamie

The family of a soldier who died after his motorbike was involved in a collision with a lorry in Pembrokeshire say he was “much loved by all his family and friends”.

Lance Corporal Jamie Stewart Fleming (21), from Spinning Path Gardens, Crediton, was based with the Royal Corps of Signals at Brawdy, Pembrokeshire.

He died at the scene of the accident on the A487 Felindre Farchog to Cardigan road at about 1.40pm on Good Friday, April 18.

Christmas Late night opening in Crediton

A late night shopping evening, organised with the support of nearly all the town’s shops and other businesses, the Chamber of Commerce and the Crediton Courier will take place until 8pm on Friday 7th December.
