A well-known Exeter musician is set to conduct again at the end of September for a special charity concert in the city centre in aid of Unicef, the United Nations Children's Fund. Raymond Calcraft, who was Director of Exeter Philharmonic Choir for fifteen years from 1988 to 2003, led the Choir in more than 80 concerts in the Cathedral, and took them to Spain in 1998 to sing in Madrid's famous Auditorio Nacional and the Cathedral of Salamanca. He also brought the English Chamber and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras to Exeter to perform with the Choir.

A well-known Exeter musician is set to take up his baton again after a fifteen-year break in conducting for a special charity concert in aid of Unicef, the United Nations Children's Fund.

Intriguing graffiti appears on the wall of Exeter military base

A graffiti artist has been at work in an unexpected place - the high red-brick wall surrounding Exeter's Wyvern Barracks.

The graffiti has appeared on the otherwise featureless wall along Topsham Road, near the main gates.

But this isn't an attack of hostile vandalism on the important military base. The graffiti artist, Max Nettleton from Exeter College, was invited by the Barracks' Commanding Officer to decorate the wall using removeable paint, to publicise the big event taking place there at the beginning of July, ‘100 Years Behind the Red Brick Wall'.
