Staff and members of a newly formed youth panel are thrilled that their plan for a ‘Museums at Night’ event at Castle Drogo has been successfully short listed. The race is now on as the public vote opens to win mixed media artist and musician Fred Deakin to host the after-hours event in May 2014, at which local young people will be invited to experience Castle Drogo as never before.

Voting opens for the Top Dog walk in the West competition

The second annual competition to find the best dog walk along the South West Coast Path has been launched this week backed by the Kennel Club’s access adviser Stephen Jenkinson, an expert on where dog owners can go and what they can do in the countryside. The winning voter will win a holiday at one of Holiday Cottages 800 dog-friendly cottages in the region worth £400.

Devon Chilli Fiesta - Photo Competition - Enter Now!

During the chilli fiesta, we will be hosting a special photography competition. The theme is chillies!

We will be offering prices for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and the judges will be the general public who attend the event. However you do not need to attend to enter.

A shortlist of 20 pictures will be selected by a panel of judges from the entries and then these photos will be blown up to prints measuring 18 inches by 12 inches. We will be working in conjunction with a local digital media specialist to help with this.

Devon boy wins NFU competition

Christmas came early for Rowan McDowell when he recieved £100 worth of Britains Farm Toys after winning a competition organised by the National Farmers’ Union (NFU).

The NFU champions British farming and provides professional representation and services to its Farmer and Grower members.

Rowan, 7,from Morchard Bishop, won the Let’s Talk Farming contest by spotting all the Red Tractor logos hidden in a picture depicting some typical British produce.

A photograph taken by a researcher from the University of Exeter of a pair of burying beetles feeding on an animal carcass has won first prize in a new competition. Paul Hopwood’s image, snapped in the Cornish countryside, was announced as the winner of NERC’s inaugural short article and photography competition at an awards ceremony in London yesterday.
