New electric cars arrive in Exeter

Two new electric cars for use by Exeter City Council staff have arrived this morning in a push to help improve the city's air quality. The new cars will now be used in the vehicle pool by council staff to use when out and about on official duty replacing several ageing diesel-powered vans.

The authority purchased the pair of Nissan LEAF electric cars to further move away from diesel power in an attempt to reduce emissions and help improve air quality on Exeter’s streets.

Exeter City releases seven players

Exeter City have released details of the retain list following the completion of the 2013/14 campaign.

Sam Parkin, John O’Flynn, Alan Gow, Elliott Chamberlain, Jacob Jagger Cane and Jacob Wannell have not been offered new contracts with the club. This is in addition to Artur Krysiak, whose release was announced on Thursday morning.

£1m Plan to Make Exeter Energy Efficient

Exeter City Council has today announced plans to invest £1 million in a programme of projects at council buildings to become more energy efficent.

The projects include the installation of low energy hand driers and the phasing out of paper towel dispensers at the Civic Centre, thought to make savings of more than £10,000 a year

A heating replacement project is also underway to replace the old incumbent boilers at the Civic Centre, realising significant financial and carbon savings.

Reynolds Painting Saved for Devon

A successful fundraising auction by the Friends of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery has ensured that a portrait commemorating the friendship of two of Devon’s most famous artists has been saved for Devon.

With over £12,000 raised at the art auction last Wednesday and assistance from the V&A Purchase Grant Fund, the Portrait of the artist Francis Hayman (1708-1776) by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792) can be added to Exeter’s art collection.

ECC's new online service to 'make life easier'

People can now gain access to online accounts for a number of council services, Exeter City Council has announced.

The City Council has created a self-service online account for customers, making it easier to access things like benefits and council tax payments.

Residents can register for Council Tax e-billing, allowing them to get an email notification instead of receiving a paper bill.

Council consider Football in the Community grant

Popular Exeter charity, Football in the Communty (FITC) may be set to be receive a considerable grant from Exeter City Council. The Council is proposing to give the charity, that uses sports to promote education, participation, health and wellbeing and social inclusion a grant of £19,800 that could secure its long-term plans for expansion. People urged to help rough sleepers in storms

People have been asked to help identify anyone who is sleeping rough during the extreme wet and windy weather.

Exeter City Council is urging people to call the Devon and Cornwall Rough Sleeper Hotline on 0800 151 3441 if they are aware of anyone who may be at risk from the storms.

City council to review dogs lead policy

Exeter City Council has said today that it would be looking at its policy regarding dogs on leads in parks following a recent attack in Belmont Park last weekend.

The recent attack left dog owner Helen Dale in RD&E hospital after another dog attacked her Jack Russell, Poppy.

The dog’s owners, a man and a woman in their 20s, have not yet been traced.

The attack comes after a Pit bull type dog attacked and killed a Yorkshire terrier in August.

The attack also took place in Belmont Park and saw the pit bull breed dog destroyed under the Dangerous Dogs Act...

Woman stabbed in city centre attack

Police have arrested a man after a serious assault on a woman in Exeter this morning (21 October).

Police were alerted just before 10.55am after a woman was stabbed in the Bartholomew Cemetery in Bonhay Road, Exeter.

The police helicopter assisted with the search for the suspect and he was found by officers shortly after.

The 49-year-old man from Exeter was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was taken into police custody. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
