People can now gain access to online accounts for a number of council services, Exeter City Council has announced.

The City Council has created a self-service online account for customers, making it easier to access things like benefits and council tax payments.

Residents can register for Council Tax e-billing, allowing them to get an email notification instead of receiving a paper bill.

Cllr Rob Hannaford, Lead Councillor for Housing and Customer Access, said: “This new initiative has been brought in to make life easier for customers. It also saves the Council vital money, cutting down on paper, postage and printing and is much better for the environment."

The format of the bills has also been improved to make them clearer and easier to understand.

The online services now available are council tax, housing benefit, business rates and landlord services. The self service option currently enables customers to go online to view their accounts and to check payment amounts and dates. Soon they will also be able to sign up online to pay by Direct Debit, tell the Council about a change of circumstances or apply for a single occupier discount.

This is in addition to all the Council's other online services including payments, bin collection dates, planning applications, and ‘Report, Request and Apply for it’.

The new online self service can be found on www.exeter.gov.uk/myaccount or click on the ‘My Account’ link at the top of any page of the website.
