Last chance to enjoy paddling pools before work begins on new splash park

People have a few more days left to enjoy Exeter's paddling pools before they close down for the year.

With what has been one of the best summers in recent years, thousands of youngsters - along with mums, dads and grandparents - have been enjoying a cooling paddle in St Thomas and Heavitree.

St Thomas Paddling Pool stays open until Sunday (8 September) evening. After then, work will begin on a new splash park on 9 September, in time for it to be open next Summer.

Austria: "Massive" fire and explosion in Graz, 3 injured

A "massive" fire and explosion has been reported in Graz, southern Austria, earlier today (Wednesday 22 May).

According to reports the blaze began in a furniture store on Annenstraße, in the centre of the city.

A total of four explosions took place during the blaze, as gas cylinders combusted.

Three people are thought to be injured, including a firefighter and two of the shop's staff. (NewsPoint)

Archaeological finds revealed as High Street work finishes ahead of schedule

Essential work to address persistent drainage and subsidence problems in Exeter’s High Street, between Mountain Warehouse/Martins Lane and Broadgate, has been completed almost two weeks ahead of schedule, Devon County Council has announced.

The problem, the cause of the subsidence it appears, was a failure of the street's drainage and poor condition of a 4" water main running through the High Street.

The work, which started on 16 January, has included drainage, footway and road works. Wales and West Utilities have also replaced a gas main from Broadgate to Burger King....

Renewed National Bus Passes to be issued

Renewed National Bus Passes will be issued across Devon from next month. Devon County Council is re-issuing around 175,000 passes direct to registered addresses in the county without residents needing to re-apply, ahead of the deadline of 31 March.

The County Council has been promoting a campaign since March 2012, encouraging residents to contact Devon County Council if the details for their pass has changed and needs updating. This symposium will reveal the Roman city that lies beneath the surface of modern-day Exeter. Speakers discuss the 1970s excavations that revealed the legionary fortress, the Roman bath-house and the remains of the basilica, plus recent discoveries at St Loyes and the west of Exeter.

The day includes a tour of RAMM’s Roman artefacts.
