‘Win a car for £1’ Christmas winner revealed

The St Loye’s Foundation car raffle, in which Princesshay shoppers have had the chance to win a Peugeot 107 for £1, has raised in excess of £10,000 for the Exeter-based charity. The winning raffle ticket was drawn on Monday 17th December by Exeter’s very own Santa - the Deputy Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Percy Prowse.

The lucky winner, Abbey Cheung of Kingsteignton will receive her brand new car in time for Christmas. The super new car, worth over £7,000 was donated to St Loye’s Foundation by Exeter’s Truscotts Peugeot dealership.

Kitsons raises £1,000 for Community Foundation

Leading Devon law firm Kitsons raised a fantastic £1,000 for Devon Community Foundation, thanks to their recent Christmas Quiz. The evening, which took place at the Grand Hotel in Torquay, saw 115 professionals from businesses across Torbay, Teignbridge and Exeter come together to take part in a gruelling eight-round quiz followed by a raffle. Businesses included Lloyds TSB, Bishop Fleming, Thomas Westcott, Pavey Group and Francis Clark.

Dream-A-Way Christmas Party at Bicton

As 2012 draws to a close, Exeter-Based Charity Dream-A-Way entertained more than 70 special guests and their carers at Bicton Park Botanical Gardens, where owner Valerie Lister and her team dished up another fantastic Christmas lunch and all were delighted with their gifts from the Real Santa.

There was a mammoth draw, fun bingo and even a mini-auction which all added to the fun time had by all!

Chiefs get their teeth into fundraising burgers!

Members of the Exeter Chiefs squad have already been showing their support to the Exeter Foundation, which is set to benefit every time someone tucks into a specially-made ‘Chiefs Burger’ at Urban Burger in the City Centre.

In a new incentive thought up by Urban Burger owner Garth and Melissa Pearse, the Foundation will benefit to the tune of 50p each time a customer orders the mouth-watering Chiefs Burger, which is made up of two 6oz prime Red Ruby Devon beef patties, bacon, fried onions, mayo and two slices of American cheese.

Appeal launched to 'Save a School' this Christmas!

Exeter Steiner School is running an appeal to help save it from imminent closure, which would leave over 40 pupils and families without a school the week before Christmas.

The campaign to raise the £20,000 needed is already well underway with over £4,500 raised in the past five days. Donations and pledges are being gratefully received, as well as sponsored events such as a Tai Chi Walk on Sunday 16th December, where father and trustee of the school Joe Salmon will attempt to walk the 12 mile Exeter Green Circle Path using only Tai Chi and Qigong moves.

Santas on the run for Dream-A-Way charity

Nearly 400 people of all ages, dressed as Santa, enjoyed a brisk jog or walk around the Exeter Quay in beautiful winter sunshine on Sunday 2nd December.

The fourth Iron Bridge Runner (IBR) Santa Run took place in ideal conditions and everyone enjoyed themselves as they all raised some well received seasonal funding for Dream-A-Way.

Devon Community Foundation hosted their annual Volunteer of the Year awards ceremony at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) in Exeter, honouring the hard work and achievements of the volunteers from the groups they support. Humanists warn Exeter families of Samaritan’s Purse

Devon’s Humanists have warned schools and parents of the American evangelical group behind the Samaritan’s Purse shoe-box initiative.

Humanist Chair Keith Denby said: “As we near Christmas children have been bringing home shoe-boxes to fill with toys and presents for children in need in Africa and Eastern Europe as part of the initiative 'Operation Christmas Child'."
