Bristol-based charity Legs4Africa raises awareness for World Mental Health Day through a worldwide fundraising campaign, Leg Up. Kind-hearted Devon people are being urged to sign up to join an army of volunteers needed to collect food for charities feeding people in their community this Christmas.

The Trussell Trust, which provides emergency food parcels to people in crisis, and FareShare, which provides food to thousands of frontline charities and community groups, are seeking volunteers to help during this year’s Tesco Food Collection.

Devon NHS Ride of Thanks fuels Honiton-based charity Blood Bike for almost a year thanks to generosity of hundreds of motorcyclists

Motorcyclists in their hundreds showing their appreciation for NHS and essential workers have raised funds to keep a Honiton-based charity Blood Bike on the road for almost a year.

The Devon NHS Ride of Thanks raised more than £2,967 for the Devon Freewheelers charity thanks to the generosity of more than 600 motorcyclists’ donations.

The event raised almost £3,000 for the Devon Freewheelers – the equivalent cost of fuelling one Blood Bike for almost a year, funding 277 journeys, to support the NHS and its patients for free.

Council gets behind scheme to help the homeless

Exeter City Council is backing a scheme which gives members of the public an alternative way of making a donation to help homeless people in the city.

The Council will be placing QR codes in all of its buildings - including leisure centres and the Civic Centre – allowing the public to donate money towards supporting homeless people in Exeter.

The scheme is being run by the Exeter Homeless Partnership (EHP), of which the City Council is a partner. A new campaign is being launched to make people aware of how they can get involved in the initiative.

Bradfords Building Supplies with the Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club welcomed the return of its major regional rugby festival, the Bradfords Community Cup, hosting the final of the postponed 2019 event at the Chiefs’ Sandy Park stadium on Saturday 25th September.

Local residents, councillors and other members of the community have been invited to a public consultation for a solar farm north of Whimple in East Devon.

The proposed development by Aura Power is for a subsidy-free solar farm of up to 49.9 MW capacity that would generate enough renewable electricity to supply the equivalent of over 12,000 typical homes or to power 18,000 electric vehicles annually. It would save an estimated 11,500 tonnes of CO2 per year, making a substantial contribution to local and national net zero targets.
