ITV journalist Robert Peston is calling on solicitors in Devon to sign up to a charity campaign this November as the pandemic has left hundreds of local people waiting to write a will.

Some 49% of people in the UK do not have a will – and the coronavirus pandemic has seen a surge in demand for help from local solicitors.

The annual Will Aid campaign is helping meet the demand, but more support is needed from local firms who are receiving hundreds of enquiries from across the county.

The inspection of Exeter and Cardiff based ATU(W) contributes to Ofsted’s 13th annual report , which assesses the effectiveness of care and welfare arrangements for recruits, trainees and officer cadets in Armed Forces initial training.

Inspectors carried out and assessed 14 inspections between October 2020 and May 2021, at the request of the MoD, for the annual report.

Two establishments were judged outstanding in all 4 key judgements and for overall effectiveness. Another 7 were graded good overall, and 2 were rated requires improvement.

The Environment Agency is asking people who are planning on having a bonfire to make sure that they only burn small amounts of paper, leaves, untreated wood and cardboard and the waste is kept securely before being burned. A former Exeter student is set to chair a UK-wide virtual debate that will give young environmentalists a chance to discuss the big issues being raised by world leaders at the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow.

More heavy rain is forecast for Devon this evening and throughout the weekend, and road users are being urged to take extra care on the county’s roads.

Yellow Severe Weather Warnings have been issued by the Met Office for further persistent downpours tonight and over the weekend.
