Stolen laptop with family photographs returned to victim after three years

A victim in Tiverton is delighted to have his laptop returned to him following a burglary at his home three years ago.

Brian Williams, 54, had his laptop taken when his home in Moorhayes, Tiverton was burgled back in April 2010.

Two laptops and a digital camera were taken by thieves who have since been convicted.

Mr Williams said: “One of the laptops had hundreds of family photographs on there and thankfully this is the one which was been returned.”

St Petrock's shortlisted for Guardian Charity Awards

The Guardian Charity Awards 2013 shortlist, announced today, has St Petrock’s, Exeter’s charity for people who are homeless, among its list of successful charities. Five of these charities will find out in October whether they will share the £25,000 prize money and other prizes.

The rapidly-growing 50+ Show, which is already held each year in London, Manchester and Glasgow and will be held for the first time in Birmingham this 2013, is about to take place for the first time in Exeter in 2014. The 50+ Show is the largest exhibition in the UK specifically for the active over 50s.

Inspection of Devon and Cornwall probation finds "improvements needed"

An inspection into the quality of work with violent offenders by Devon and Cornwall Probation Trust has found that the organisation worked effectively with other agencies to protect the public and prevent reoffending. However, the report into the inspection's findings, published by Liz Calderbank, Chief Inspector of Probation, said the Trust's work to assess and review the risk of harm posed by some offenders needed to improve.
