In a scrutiny committee meeting today councillors have been briefed on how a potential £4.4 million overspend will affect consideration of the forthcoming budget for 2014/15 which will be agreed next January. A total of £99,800 was bid on the night - a secret donation of £200 made the sum up to six figures.

A £40 million plan to move Torquay pavilions onto an Island in the middle of the town inner harbour has received some criticism from locals.
The ambitious plan has been floated as an alternative to a luxury hotel development expected to submit for planning permission shortly before Christmas.
