Fourth firefighters strike next week

Firefighters across England and Wales have set a date for a fourth strike action on the 13 November.

Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) will also hold a new ballot to decide if to take further industrial action and what forms they should take.

As in previous actions FBU members will strike for a set hour time period before returning to work.

This strike will take place for four hours between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday 13 November.

Fire minister, Brandon Lewis criticised th move towards further industrial action.

LV= Cup Final to be played at Sandy Park

Sandy Park, home to the Exeter Chiefs, has today been confirmed as the venue for the final of this year's LV= Cup competition. Guido (Guy) Fawkes and his co-conspirators entered Parliament with honest intentions for an alternative long-term vision for England. In their case this was a Roman Catholic not Anglican future, and they were not successful. This leads to the question, ‘who looks for the future of our communities’? Who is really concerned about their well-being in 50-80 years time, or beyond? How will we travel, trade, resource and feed ourselves in 2063? In a society obsessed with instant gratification for individuals the prospects for community futures are not clear, so who does care? Probably not...

Rosie the Greyhound's owners thank TED readers and Twitter users for spreading the word

Owners of missing dog, Rosie the greyhound, have thanked TED readers and Twitter users for their help in the eleven-day dog hunt.

Hundreds tweeted and re-tweeted to make sure that people kept the eyes open for the missing pooch.

Rosie the greyhound was found on Monday, 4th November on Trendlebere Moor at a little before 9am.

Caroline Woffindale, Rosie's owner had searched non-stop for ten days when she had to return to work in Oxford on Sunday night.

Sweetshop sold repackaged chocolate worth 30p, for £3 a bar

A sweetshop has been fined £1400 for selling fake Wonka chocolate bars for £3 a bar which were really ASDA own-brand bars costing only 30p. An investigation by a South Wales Council’s trading standards team found the sweetshop were buying Smart Price chocolate bars from ASDA and re-packaging them as Nestlé’s premium ‘WONKA’ brand making more than £2 in profit from each bar they sold. Sweet66 Ltd, based in Cwnbran, South Wales was found guilty of eight offences including breach of trademark and misleading customers.

Local NHS service launches artwork competition for school children

ALL primary school children in Exeter are being invited to enter an NHS drawing competition and show off their artistic talent.

Children aged five to 11 in all 29 primary and special needs school in the city now have the chance to express their creativity with a picture of what being healthy means to them.

The arts competition is being organised by the Northern, Eastern and Western Clinical Commissioning Group (NEW Devon CCG) whose core value is the promotion of healthy people leading healthy lives in healthy communities.

Probation workers stage protest in Exeter City centre

Strikers from NAPO, the union representing Probation and Family Court staff staged a protest on Exeter High street today. Members of the union are on strike today and tomorrow (5/6 November) in protest of Government plans to bring in private companies to run a large proportion of the probation service. In plans announced in May this year all prisoners no matter how short their sentence would be subject to 12 months of mandatory probation supervision in the area they live.
