Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has today expressed his sadness at the news that former club captain Tom Hayes has been forced to retire from the game with immediate effect.

Irishman Hayes has confirmed a long-standing back injury has brought to an end his five-year stint with the Devon club – and that he will now be seeking a new challenge away from the professional game.

For Baxter, the departure of the experienced 33-year-old – who has amassed 136 games and six tries for the Chiefs – is certainly an untimely blow for the club, but instead of reflecting too much on...

Help shape how the Jurassic coast is looked after

The Jurassic Coast Partnership would like to hear from local people about their views on how the World Heritage Site, which extends 95 miles from Exmouth to Studland, should be looked after.

The site is managed through a partnership which includes Dorset County Council and Devon County Councils. A management plan sets out details of how the site is looked after and what activities have been agreed.

The plan is reviewed every five years to keep it up to date and relevant. The opinions of local people are being sought on the new draft plan.

The Exeter Santa Run 2013

On Sunday morning 8 December 2013, the Quay area of Exeter will be treated to the sight of hundreds of Santas running alongside the River Exe.

Ironbridge Runner Events are once again organising the events in support of the local charity Dream-A-Way which provides holidays for disabled people of all ages in the South West.

First there will be a competitive 5k race along the river and flood relief channel starting and finishing on Piazza Terracina.

This will be followed by a shorter fun run suitable for all the family.

Exeter company wins £1.4m terminal 2 contract

Exeter’s Wood&Wood Signs has been revealed as one of the UK businesses behind the development of Heathrow’s brand new Terminal 2 building. The local company scooped the £1.4 million contract to design, manufacture and install more than 5,000 signs throughout the new terminal building set to open in June 2015.

UK Population expected to rise to over 73 Million

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics today show that the UK population could rise by nearly 10 million over the next 25 years. The ONS figures project the UK could have a population of 73.3million up from an estimated population of 63.7 million in 2012. A much larger proportion of this population will be much older as well putting more pressure on services as the number of people aged over 80, will double. Hospital gains good feedback after updating patient letters to make them clearer

Staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust have undertaken the mammoth task of re-writing more than 8,000 patient letters to make them more user-friendly.

Previously, many patients would read the first line of the letter with the specifics of the appointment but didn’t read beyond this.
