Torquay Pavillons could be moved onto an island in £40m development

A £40 million plan to move Torquay pavilions onto an Island in the middle of the town inner harbour has received some criticism from locals.

The ambitious plan has been floated as an alternative to a luxury hotel development expected to submit for planning permission shortly before Christmas.

The plans have been drawn up by residents supported by Mark Hoyle, Brian Lewis and Julie Brandon from Torquay Town Centre Community Partnership.

The Exeter Daily reports with great sadness tonight that former Exeter Chiefs skipper and hero, Tom Hayes, has been forced to retire from the game with immediate effect.

The 33 year-old forward from Limerick, Ireland has had his hand forced by an ongoing struggle with back trouble.

Council to announce £150,000 for WW1 memorial restorations

Devon County Council will be announcing that it will make available £150,000 in funding to help restore war memorials as part of a project marking the WW1 centenary.

The project called ‘Devon remembers’ will see the armed forces, councils, trade unions as well as local historians team up to help community projects to around local war memorials. Recycling centres could operate reduced hours to save cash

Proposals to save more than £1.2 million next year from the way the County Council manages waste and recycling have been put forward for consultation this week.

The potential savings are part of a wider plan to reduce the council’s budget by over £100m over the next three years to meet the latest Government spending targets. Exeter School pupil David Salmon achieved the highest marks in the country in A Level Electronics and Applied Science.

The 2013 Exeter School leaver received 595 UMS marks out of 600, the highest of all candidates who studied Electronics and Applied Science with the exam board, WJEC, in 2013.
