Local NHS service launches artwork competition for school children

ALL primary school children in Exeter are being invited to enter an NHS drawing competition and show off their artistic talent.

Children aged five to 11 in all 29 primary and special needs school in the city now have the chance to express their creativity with a picture of what being healthy means to them.

The arts competition is being organised by the Northern, Eastern and Western Clinical Commissioning Group (NEW Devon CCG) whose core value is the promotion of healthy people leading healthy lives in healthy communities.

Probation workers stage protest in Exeter City centre

Strikers from NAPO, the union representing Probation and Family Court staff staged a protest on Exeter High street today. Members of the union are on strike today and tomorrow (5/6 November) in protest of Government plans to bring in private companies to run a large proportion of the probation service. In plans announced in May this year all prisoners no matter how short their sentence would be subject to 12 months of mandatory probation supervision in the area they live. Spacex is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Hunt as the organisation’s new director.

Hunt joins from Focal Point Gallery in Southend-on-Sea, where he has been director since 2008. Details of Exeter's Remembrance Sunday Service announced

The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Rachel Lyons, together with the Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, Wing Commander Brian Wills-Pope MBE DL and other civic and military dignitaries with a connection to Exeter, will be commemorating Remembrance Sunday on 10 November with an open air service around the War Memorial in Northenhay Gardens.

Stagecoach South West supports 2013 Poppy Appeal

Stagecoach South West is helping to support the Royal British Legion's 2013 Poppy Appeal which honours and remembers service personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Indian space agency launches mission to mars

India has successfully launched a spacecraft hoping to make the 300 day journey to Mars. This morning the Mars Orbiter Mission launched from the Satish Dhawan space centre after a 56 hour countdown to launch. The craft known as the MOM or Mangalyaan (translates to Mars-craft) will, if all goes to plan orbit the Red Planet taking readings on its atmosphere. Exeter-based airline, Flybe has said that its Chairman Jim French will leave the company as part of a strategic review to restore profitability.
