Incredible ‘gannet cam’ captures birds’ eye view

Scientists from The University of Exeter and the RSPB have captured incredible footage of what it’s like to fly with the UK’s largest seabird. Researchers working on the island nature reserve of RSPB Grassholm in Pembrokeshire, Wales, attached miniature cameras to some of the gannets that nest there with fascinating results (see video). House sales in the South West at highest levels since 2008.

House sales in the South West are at the highest level since 2008 and are expected to continue rising.

The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has claimed that the increase is a sign that economic recovery is beginning to spread into the South West from London and the South East.

According to research by RICS 86% of Chartered surveyors are expecting to see rise in house sales over the next three months, the highest level since the survey began in 1978.

Following a fine summer for growing grapes in the UK, Devon vineyards have a lot to celebrate and an Exeter city centre food store is promoting their success. A range of locally produced Devon wines is being launched at the Real Food Store on Tuesday 19 November with a special wine tasting evening between 6pm and 8pm.

Three vineyards, all within 12 miles of the city, are supplying wine to the community owned store which opened in March 2011. Pebblebed, at Clyst St George, Yearlstone, at Bickleigh, and Manstree based at Shillingford St George.

UK inflation falls to 2.2%

The UK's inflation rate fell to 2.2% in the year to October 2013 as measured by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI).

The figure is the lowest for more than a year and is down from 2.7% in September, according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The ONS reports that the largest contributions to the fall in the rate came from a drop in prices in the transport sector (notably motor fuels) and in education where the impact of rising tuition fees was felt less acutely than a year previously.

Police appeal for witnesses after sexual assault in Exmouth

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted in Exmouth at the weekend. The alleged incident happened outside the Q Club in Manchester Street in the early hours of Sunday 10 November 2013. A man approached a 20-year-old woman from Exeter who was stood outside the nightclub and sexually assaulted her. The suspect is described as a stocky Asian man and was wearing a grey hooded top.
