A decade of research into the development of writing in school-aged children at the University of Exeter has shaped classroom practice in the teaching of writing and informed national and international policy.

Exeter Drama Company turns 60

The Exeter Drama Company, which began back in 1954, is celebrating its 60th birthday and its first play of the Jubliee Season with a party to take place at Alphington Primary School.

Speaking of the milestone,EDC Chairman Brian Lawless, said:"We're very excited to still be doing what we love best.

It’s all about the birds and the bees at Paignton Zoo right now.

Three Ural owl chicks can be seen in the Forest area of the Zoo. And a colony of Cornish black bees has been installed in a new public viewing hive.

The bee hive is part of a Heritage Lottery Fund project run by B4 - Bringing Back Black Bees, a Cornish conservation organisation working to promote the qualities of the native black honey bee Apis mellifera mellifera.

Staff and volunteers at Knightshayes near Tiverton are currently researching the role the National Trust property played during the First World War.

Their research will form the basis of an exhibition they’re hoping to hold from mid-July to November next year to mark the 100 year anniversary of the War and the team are keen to hear from anyone who might hold any information that might help them with their project.

A local conservation charity is marking Volunteers’ Week by highlighting some of the many ways in which its dedicated volunteers contribute.
