Be a host family and earn up to £400 per month
A Devon-based company is on course for a record-breaking year with hundreds of students heading to Devon in the coming weeks.
As the World Cup reaches the next exciting stages, The Training Partnership Limited (TTPL) is welcoming over a hundred students and graduates from Germany, France, Italy and Spain, and close to 300 arrivals in total by the end of July.
More companies in Devon are partnering with TTPL to provide work placement opportunities, and more host families are needed to offer accommodation in Exeter, Torbay and across South Devon.
Nadine Stroud, Business Development Manager at TTPL, said: “We have a fantastic mix of families who have been hosting students for many years, alongside new families, who often have children of their own, and like the idea of experiencing different cultures. Many stay in contact with the students for years afterwards.
“We’re offering a greater mix of work placements than ever before and this year there’s been a surge in demand, so we’re looking for host families particularly in Exeter, Torquay and local towns. There’s no such thing as a typical host family but you have to be welcoming and enjoy company. Students stay from between 2 to 26 weeks and we are busy all year round.”
John and Linda Brook, of Heavitree, Exeter, have been a host family, offering self-catering accommodation for over six years.
John said: “It’s a great way to meet people of different nationalities, get to know them, show them places to visit. We’ve had no problems with any of the students and we really enjoy it.
“Our children have left home and we’ve got three grandchildren now. We’ve had Spanish, Dutch, Romanian and German placements and get on well with them all.”
Host families can receive up to £400 per student per month, with families needed to provide self-catering, half-board (breakfast and evening meal) and full board (breakfast, packed lunch, evening meal) accommodation, which also needs to be within walking distance of a bus route or train station.
One of the largest UK work placement organisations outside London, TTPL provides participants with work placements, a social programme and language development, as part of their career development.
Nadine added: “It’s a wonderful learning experience for the students and graduates, who are incredibly committed to doing well and already have good English language skills. It’s great for companies to have extra graduate-level support, it’s good for tourism, with many participants staying in contact and returning again and again, and host families get a lot out of it too.”
In the last 17 years, over five thousand students have joined TTPL in Devon at work placements ranging from business administration and marketing, to pharmaceutical and engineering.
More than 900 students joined Torquay-based TTPL in the UK in 2013, and this year the aim is to offer the widest range of placements yet, for over 1000 students, aged upwards from 17 years old. The company also runs a programme for UK-based students seeking placements abroad.
