Countryside team offers exciting new events this summer

East Devon District Council’s Countryside team is working with a number of partners to deliver some new wellbeing events this summer.

As well as favourites such as rock pooling and bug hunts, the Countryside team is offering outdoor classes in Tai Chi, editation and yoga at local beauty spots.

The first of these wellbeing events is an introduction to Tai Chi, which takes place on the Maer, in Exmouth, on Saturday 1 July from 9am to 10am. This course is repeated on Saturday 19 August at Seaton Wetlands.

New award made by Exeter School pupils - St John’s Hospital Educational Foundation ‘Blue Boy Award’

Exeter School pupils studying Design Technology have enjoyed investigating the possibilities of 3D printing to make cast statuettes for a new Exeter School prize. Year 9 pupils have cast silicon moulds from 3D printed masters to cast the statuettes in the form of the ‘Blue Boy’. One of the original ‘Blue Boy’ statues is situated at the spot in Princesshay on which the mediaeval St John's Hospital was located and from which Exeter School can trace its origins in 1633. Residents in South West to share views of police in anonymous study

A first-of-its-kind, national study has launched calling on the people of the South West to share their views and experiences of the police and emergency services.

The anonymous study is hosted online by Hudgell Solicitors, legal specialists in civil liberties cases, and will gauge the nation’s perceptions of the police and other emergency services.

AN EXETER law firm is running a series of events throughout July to talk about dementia care and raise awareness for those living with dementia. Karyna Squibb from Cartridges Law in Exeter is a Dementia Friends Champion, having undertaken training to gain a deeper understanding of dementia and how it impacts those living with dementia. Protecting your business against flooding

As we are all unfortunately very aware, Exeter is a high-risk area for flooding. As far back as 2012, the city was named the 15th most at risk location by the Association of British Insurers, and since then each winter has brought more scenes of devastation. A £32m flood-defence scheme was begun in 2014 and went into its second phase last summer. Work has now stopped until October to avoid disruption to summer visitors, but the government still hopes to have the scheme completed in 2018.

Many young people have been conned into providing personal data or into responding to modelling and talent scams via pop-ups on social media accounts like Instagram and Facebook.

Exeter Dissenters Graveyard open day

The Dissenters Graveyard will be open to visitors between 11am and 4pm on Saturday 8th July.

The City of Exeter Rowing Regatta takes place on Saturday 8 July on Exeter Quay this year for a full day of sprint races.
