Cornwall tourism chief in call to rename A30 the DEVON BYPASS

The chief executive of Visit Cornwall is reported to have said that the A30 between Exeter and Bodmin should be renamed the Devon Bypass.

Malcolm Bell said when roadworks are completed near Bodmin drivers will have no need to stop in Devon.

"It will be the easiest drive in the country," Mr Bell said. "Turn onto the M5 and it's all the way down to Cornwall without the need to stop in Devon.

Mr Bell told BBC Radio Devon: "Devon is a beautiful county...it's just a shame you guys you have to come second to Cornwall."

South West firms enjoyed another solid month of growth supported by a boost in new orders in May, according to the latest Lloyds Bank UK Regional PMI survey.

The South West PMI fell to 53.8 in May, showing that business activity expanded at a solid pace, albeit more slowly than in April, when the PMI was at 56.7. A reading greater than 50.0 signifies growth in business activity.

Employment also rose during May as jobs were created at the quickest pace this year so far. Businesses linked job creation to an increase in demand and new orders.

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter believes his side have been handed a “fantastic” draw in this season’s European Champions Cup.

As one of the five top seeds for the 2017/18 competition, the newly-crowned Premiership champions have been pitted in Pool Three against rivals Montpellier, Glasgow Warriors and three-time winners Leinster.

All three opponents are familiar foes for the Chiefs, who will be looking to recreate their title-winning form onto the European stage when the competition gets underway in October.

Exeter's City Gate Hotel - Exclusive review

Exeter just wouldn’t be Exeter without the iconic City Gate Hotel, which is why I was thrilled to be invited to stay following the extensive three month revamp. Despite living in Exeter, my husband and I were determined to get the full tourist experience and arrived by train into the City Centre. The signs do not lie and the City Gate is a five minute walk from Exeter’s Central Station. Situated right into the town, but not too close to the shops and restaurants that you get all the noise, the hotel is also near to St David’s train station, various bus and taxi stops and the A30 and M5....
