Kier Living commits to creating new woodland to mitigate its carbon usage

As part of its new Greener Living campaign, which launches today, Kier Living, part of the Kier Group, has partnered with Forest Carbon, a company leading the way in voluntary carbon woodland creation in the UK, and has committed to planting 45,000 new trees by 2020 to offset its carbon usage.

Through its partnership with Forest Carbon, Kier Living will create new woodlands totalling 15,000 trees per annum over the next three years – to balance, in time, its annual 3,500 tonne CO2 footprint.

Pedestrian in critical condition after A30 lorry crash

Police and ambulance were called at 3.05am today [4 August] following a serious collision on the westbound carriageway of the A30 at Daisy Mount Cross, Ottery St Mary.

The collision involved a male pedestrian and an HGV.

The 19-year-old man, from Hampshire, was walking along the carriageway with three other men when he was in collision with the HGV.

He sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital before being transferred to Derriford Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Work due to start on new junction near Tiverton

Work on a new £5.7 million junction off the A361 near Tiverton is due to start next month (September).

Roads Minister Jesse Norman carried out a ceremonial turf cutting at the site earlier this week (1 August) to mark the announcement, as part of a whistle-stop tour of road schemes in the county. AMU Staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital have raised £2,000 for the UK Sepsis Trust by showcasing the care they provide during Acute Medicine Awareness Day on 21st June.

Residents urged to be vigilant after second Sidbury burglary

Police are being urged to be vigilant following a burglary at a home in Sidbury, Sidmouth, yesterday [Thursday 3 August].

Offenders used gravel stones to break a window and get into the house in the Church Street area between 12.10pm and 12.45pm. Nothing was taken from the property.

The offence follows a previous burglary in nearby Buckley Road which happened sometime between 18 and 21 July. Offenders again got inside the property through a window but nothing was stolen.

Jack Nowell is back and ‘roaring’ to go ahead of the new season, following his successful tour of New Zealand with the British and Irish Lions – and he’s turning out for a new team!

But worry not Exeter Chiefs fans, for the young star is only making a guest appearance in a select squad put together by club legend Gareth Steenson for his testimonial game.

With the company expanding to meet growing demands for a specialist family law service, The Family Law Company has taken on three new support staff for its Exeter team.

Two legal secretaries have also been appointed. Lisa Combrink, who has experience as an events manager, had previously temped at the company. She says she enjoyed working with the team so much that she asked to be put forward for a permanent role.

Barton Surgery in Dawlish is today announcing the opening of a new Health Hub, acting as a centre of excellence which will provide additional services for patients, directly next to the practise.

Newton Abbot police target driving offences and crime on roads

Since 29th May 2017 Response Officers based in Newton Abbot have been running a road traffic and roads policing operation targeting anti-social and dangerous drivers as well as removing criminals from the area’s road network.

Operation Falcon has so far detected 49 offences and between the 10– 14th July 2017 146 vehicles were detected exceeding the speed limit in a joint Safety Camera Partnership operation.
