The Gruffalo

A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood… Join Mouse on a daring adventure through the deep, dark wood in Tall Stories’ magical, musical adaptation of the classic picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. Searching for hazelnuts, Mouse meets the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the party mad Snake. Will the story of the terrifying Gruffalo save Mouse from ending up as dinner for these hungry woodland creatures? After all, there’s no such thing as a Gruffalo – is there? Songs, laughs and scary fun for children aged 3 and up and their grown-ups, in the much-loved show that’s toured Britain and the world!

2017 has already been a year to remember for X Factor‘s Lucy Spraggan, her fourth top 40 album I Hope You Don’t Mind Me Writing charting at number 12 in the Official Top 40 Album Chart. One of the leading lights in the LGBT community, Spraggan has managed to build her fanbase to a new high, with more than 12,000 tickets sold for her recent Dear You tour! Catch her play an intimate show right here in Exeter.  Tickets £15.50, over 14s, standing.

The Manfreds: Makin' Tracks Tour
Saturday, Exeter Corn Exchange
The '60's group Manfred Mann is now considered more than ever, one of the finest and most respected bands from that era. Some 55 years on, the Manfreds with original frontman, Paul Jones, will be performing many of their hits along with a mix of jazz and blues covers from their new album 'Makin' Tracks'.

Ba Ba Boom
Saturday, 9pm, Exeter Phoenix Bar & Terrace
Highest Grade and Eyes Open Promotions present Ba Ba Boom, Exeter’s finest regular reggae dance sessions featuring Highest Grade Sound System playing the latest cuts in   dancehall, conscious vibes and classic roots reggae. 9pm-2am. Free before 10pm, £4 after. Over 18s only.

Miranda Sykes Tours
Saturday, 7.30pm, Poltimore House Chapel, Exeter
Miranda Sykes, the acclaimed singer and bassist with ‘Show of Hands’ is returning to her roots. After a career spanning over 20 years, during which time she has played with many of the top musicians and singers within the folk world, she will be touring as she started out: One woman, one bass, and one guitar.


Cranbrook Charity Fun Run
Saturday, 10am, Cranbrook Country Park, off Burrough Fields
The Second annual charity fun run in the new and growing town of Cranbrook. 1K, 2.5K and 5K circuits.   Refreshments, including a bar, will be available. Doll's House and Miniature Fair

Experience the exquisite world of Dolls House Miniatures at this fair where you will find exhibits, displays and demonstrations by some of the leading craftspeople in the field. A range of stands will be exhibiting everything from charming miniature figures and delightful dolls houses to every imaginable accessory and items of furniture. £3 adults, £1.50 children. 10am-4pm.

This general market takes place on the third Sunday of each month, and has a diverse selection of market traders. 10am-5pm.


Exeter Contemporary Open
Exeter Phoenix
An annual, open submission exhibition that presents work from some of the most exciting emerging and established artists from across the UK and beyond. The exhibition is a valuable platform which aims to reflect a variety of current themes and concerns in contemporary art practice. Open 10am-5.30pm daily. Free.

Sea Life: Glimpses of the Wonderful
RAMM, Queen Street Exeter
Catch a glimpse of the magic and mystery of the world under the sea. Dive in, and delight in the wonders of aquatic life. Through a playful mix of historic objects, film, illustrations, live creatures and contemporary craft, the exhibition combines science and art to inspire a greater appreciation of Devon’s glorious coastline for visitors of all ages. The exhibition runs until 17 September, open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm.

Exeter’s Fine Art Collection: Modern
RAMM, Queen Street, Exeter
The exhibition includes two works by the British Pop Art movement artist Brian Rice, gifted through the Art Fund and on display for the first time.This diverse selection features Barbara Hepworth’s remarkable figurative drawing Preparation, Leighton Hall Woolatt’s Post Eleven Speaking and Patrick Heron’s Two Vermilions, Green and Purple in Red.
