Grecians off to winning start at St James Park

Exeter City got their 2018/19 season off to a positive start with a 3-1 win over Carlisle United at St James Park.

In Matt Taylor's first competitive match in charge of the Grecians, they went ahead in the first half when Nicky Law struck, before Jonathan Forte added another with a composed finish.

United pulled a goal back just before half-time, but were unable to find an equaliser as substitute Tristan Abrahams then sealed the points for City with an injury time goal.

With an estimated three million children at risk of being hungry during the school holidays in the UK this summer, and as food bank usage is reportedly hitting record highs, Broadclyst Community Garden has joined a nationwide initiative to grow and donate fresh fruit and vegetables to those in need. The charitable initiative sees gardening brand Miracle-Gro connect with FoodCycle projects across the country, including Exeter, to support those at risk of food poverty and social isolation. Queen Street is a key route into the city and this month has seen that route brightened up with new art work installed with the help of InExeter and the St David's Neighbourhood Partnership.

Illustrator, Aylwyn Bowen is excited to be part of the project saying, “I have a passion for creating images of Exeter’s well known buildings and love to work on projects related to the city. Each panel took approximately 2-3 days to create and I feel that they bring such light and colour to the area.

RD&E Neonatal unit bounce their way to the top to win international Kangaroo-a-thon challenge

The Neonatal team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital have fought off competition from across the globe to win an international Kangaroo-a-thon.

The challenge saw the unit competing against 110 other hospitals around the world including the USA, India and Australia. The team came out on top with an incredible 1351 hours of Kangaroo care recorded over 15 days.

Kangaroo Care, named as such from the close physical contact that a kangaroo gives their young, encourages skin to skin contact between parents and their premature or sick babies.

Eat Static returns to Exeter in September !

The dance music phenomenon that is Eat Static is back in Exeter on 7th September after several years with a gig at Move, down on The Quay. There'll be an eclectic mix of psy trance, techno and other musical wizardry. Here's to there being a recreation of the magic at the sold out gig last October in Totnes ! Doors open at 10pm with the night going on until 3am. Supporting DJs are Anton (Acid Drop) and Luke (Psycartel) of the Neurotrition collective based in Torbay. The venue boasts a Funktion-One sound rig and an exemplary selection of German beers plus Devon ciders !

An Exeter-based physiotherapist wants us all to stand on one leg to improve our movement awareness.

Cara Simpson of Flamingo Physio believes that everyone can prevent pain without having to exercise but by becoming more aware of the way they move during everyday life.

“After many years of working in the NHS as a musculoskeletal (MSK) specialist physiotherapist, it struck me that the majority of people I was seeing didn’t actually require treatment,” Cara explained.
