Police appeal for information after serious assault in Totnes

Police in Totnes have appealed for information following a serious and unprovoked assault in the town. The incident took place between 2030 hours and midnight on Friday, 12 October at the upper end of the High Street in an area close to Cistern Street. Protests outside the newly opened Marie Stopes abortion clinic

Eyewitnesses report more than 200 people currently protesting outside the newly-opened Marie Stopes clinic in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The clinic is the first in Northern Ireland offering the legal termination of pregnancies.

The protesters at the clinic are from a range of religious denominations and are reportedly holding up placards with images of aborted foetuses.

Green clouds appear over Salford

On Monday afternoon a mysterious green gas cloud appeared in Cadishead, Salford, prompting passers-by to become quite concerned.

Manchester Fire Service confirmed that crews from Irlam and Eccles fire stations were called to a waste disposal site in Cadishead at 1.53pm on Monday, 15th October, following several sightings of a green smoke cloud, which were reported to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service's (GMFRS) control room.

LGA warns of pitfalls in relaxing planning rules

Fatal fire claims four lives in Harlow, Essex

Police and the fire service are investigating the cause of a fatal fire in Harlow that has left four people dead and two at hospital, one critical.

The fire service was called at around 1.40am Monday, 15th October to a fire at a house in Barn Mead, Harlow. They brought the occupants out of the premises and emergency service personnel gave immediate emergency treatment.

Sadly, a woman and three young children have died.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and detectives are looking at the circumstances leading up to the fire.
