Classroom resources launched for LGBT+ History Month

The University of Exeter will mark LGBT+ History Month in the UK with a series of events and the launch of free classroom resources for secondary schools and museums that highlight the achievements of LGBT+ individuals working in maths and science.

The teaching resources were announced in November and are now free to access and download to mark LGBT+ History Month in February.

The South West qualifying event for the National Series 2017 is open to all, aged 11+, and organised by ex-British Pistol Shooter Georgina ‘Gorgs’ Geikie who represented Great Britain in the 2012 Summer Olympics. Exeter School F1 in Schools team awarded national prize

Exeter School is celebrating winning a prestigious national award at the F1 in Schools Final.

Exeter School's most successful F1 in Schools team, Vulcan, competed in the Development Class National Final at Silverstone on 29 March, where they were awarded the Innovative Thinking Award.

The F1 in Schools competition challenges pupils aged 9-19 to build, test and race a model car they have designed from scratch on a multitude of industry standard computer programs.

Jack Sadler Award presented to Head of Exeter School's RAF Section

An Exeter School Royal Air Force cadet has been awarded the Jack Sadler Award for outstanding contribution to the Combined Cadet Force Contingent (CCF).

Flt Sgt Finley Haddican of the RAF Section was presented with the brass trophy of an artillery shell case and an engraved medal by Contingent Commander, Commander Dr Geoff Chapman Royal Navy, during a CCF parade on Friday 17 March.

The Jack Sadler Award is made annually in memory of former pupil and trooper Jack Sadler who was tragically killed in Afghanistan.

Survey reveals people's views on international students

In relation to the UK government’s immigration policy, only 26% of adults in the South West think of international students as immigrants. The findings were revealed in a new poll conducted by ComRes for Universities UK. The survey found that 63% of adults in South West of England think international students have a positive impact on the local economies of the towns and cities in which they study. 61% of those surveyed believe that international students also have a valuable social and cultural impact on university towns and cities in the South West region. 71% of those surveyed in the...

Medicine students at the University of Exeter Medical School have travelled to Cuba to get an insight into how the country delivers high quality healthcare on a tight budget.

The Year 3 students, based at the Medical School’s Exeter and Truro campuses, travelled to the Caribbean island to discover how the Communist country’s health outcomes are among the best in the world, despite operating on a much lower budget. Exeter School's 16th concert for WaterAid

For the 16th year running and with support from South West Water and On Tap Water, the talented young musicians and singers from Exeter School will perform a special concert to raise funds for international charity WaterAid.

All proceeds from the concert, which takes place at St Michael's Church, Heavitree, from 7.30pm on Wednesday 26 April, will go directly to WaterAid projects in Zambia, helping some of the country's poorest communities gain access to clean water and safe sanitation.

Junior entrepreneurs make over £1,000 for charity

Exeter Junior School pupils, parents and staff are celebrating a successful week of selling products as part of the Virgin Make £5 Grow scheme.

The budding entrepreneurs from Year 6 made an impressive £1400, of which 75% goes to Comic Relief, Cancer Research UK and SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity).

The Year 6 pupils were set the challenge of setting up their own mini business from an initial loan of £5. The aim was to make as much profit as possible by marketing and selling their own products.

The University of Exeter Men’s rugby team are making their final preparations ahead of defending their status as the best student team in the country.

Exeter’s 1st XV will travel to the iconic Twickenham stadium, home to the RFU and England Rugby, to take their place in the final of student sport’s most prestigious competition.

A team from Tiverton achieved great success at their first attempt playing in the world’s largest school rugby tournament. But, while the Blundell’s boys’ teams are a regular feature at Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens, it was the girls’ team that were runners-up - the first time that a girls’ team from the school has entered the competition. Many of the girls only took up the sport this term so the team have gone from beginners to prize winners in less than ten weeks.
