Childline helps rising number of young people with exam result fears

A growing number of young people are turning to Childline, deeply worried about their exam results.

In 2018/19, the NSPCC-service 1,414 counselling sessions to children and teenagers apprehensive about their grades – rising by more than a half over the past four years.

Concern peaked in August, with a fifth of counselling sessions taking place during the month when young people receive their A-Level and GCSE results.

Exeter College is celebrating another year of exceptional academic results, following the best International Baccalaureate results in the college’s history earlier this summer. Today’s A Level results are also setting new records, with students achieving an overall pass rate of 99.7%, well above the national average of 97.6%.

The success is particularly notable as this is the first year that all A Level results have rested solely on a final exam at the end of two years of academic study, rather than a combination of results achieved over two years.

Next Steps South West’s work at Exeter College is set to continue as the National Collaborative Outreach Programme has been extended for a further two academic years, with a new completion date of 31 July 2021.

South Dartmoor Community College (SDCC) is celebrating after its boys’ and girls’ cricket teams were crowned among the best in the south west.

The school’s cricket teams took part in the regional Chance to Shine Finals, with the SDCC Under-13 boys’ team winning its competition. Students from Exeter College have been celebrating success following the National BTEC Awards 2019.

A total of nine Exeter College students were recognised at an awards ceremony that took place in Westminster in July. The event celebrates exceptional BTEC students and apprentices while also shining a light on the inspirational teachers who have influenced their learning.

International Baccalaureate (IB) results put Exeter College ahead of the international curve

Exeter College students are celebrating after achieving the best International Baccalaureate (IB) results in the college’s history.

This year the prestigious IB saw a 100% pass rate, with almost a third of students (32%) achieving 40+ points. Buckfastleigh Primary School, in Buckfastleigh, Devon, recently partnered with charity organisation, Fiver Challenge, in order to help pupils to develop real-world skills including financial management and leadership.

Groups of children from Reception through to Year 6 were challenged to design and create a product or service for a total of £5, gifted by the charity. Across a four-week period, pupils then had to create a logo, business name and sales pitch before selling their products and services at a fair last week, hosted by the school and attended by parents.
