Chiefs Women sign Lola Whitley from Gloucester-Hartpury

Exeter Chiefs Women have signed versatile forward Lola Whitley from Gloucester-Hartpury.

The 21-year-old is equally comfortable at lock and in the back-row and played for England U20s last year.

Initially more of a fan of athletics, 100 metres and high jump in particular, Whitley began playing rugby at Sudbury RFC aged 13 when a friend dragged her along to a game. She started off on the wing and scored 10 tries in that first match.

She said: “I was pretty awful, but I just loved running though people!”

Women’s running champions Peg and Pauline to retire

After a combined total of 70 years in running, coaching and supporting women runners, Devon’s Pauline Beare and Peg Wiseman have finally decided that the Women Can Challenges 2019 will mark the end of an era for them.

“Neither one of us is getting any younger and finally qualifying for a state pension should enable us to concentrate on some quality time, being active together while we still can,” said Pauline.

“We will of course continue coaching and running but the demands of planning and delivering programmes and events will end with the last woman who crosses the finish...

The Grecians fall to defeat at home

Exeter City fell to a 4-1 defeat to Mansfield Town at St James Park in Sky Bet League Two.

Two goals from CJ Hamilton and Tyler Walker did the damage on the day with Matt Jay netting City's only goal of the game in the first half.

Grecians’ boss Matt Taylor made two changes to the side that won in injury time last week against Notts County, with Dara O’Shea replacing Troy Brown and Donovan Wilson coming in for the suspended Ryan Bowman.

The visitors started the brighter of the two sides, confident in possession, and first tested Christy Pym with seven minutes on the...

Earlier this month World Women’s Snooker player Nutcharut Wongharuthai achieved snooker perfection by making a maximum 147 break. This sends out a message that the female game is on the rise. This break is believed to be the first ever 147 break to have been compiled by a woman in a match, either practice or in tournament play, potentially making this a historic achievement by the 19-year-old star.

Despite there not being similar breaks in the recently held West of England Billiards & Snooker (WEBSF) Ladies Open snooker tournament, players were able to realise their own...

Notts County 0 City 1

Nicky Law's stoppage time goal gave Exeter City all three points against Notts County in Sky Bet League Two.

City, who had Ryan Bowman sent off on 23 minutes, had to defend for much of the game but in the 93rd minute Donovan Wilson crossed for Law to head home from close range to get his ninth goal of the season.

Manager Matt Taylor made just one change to the side that beat Colchester United 3-0 last time out as Troy Brown replaced Dara O’Shea, who was away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland’s under-21s. Kane Hemmings had the game’s first opportunity inside...

He capped his first season in England by helping his new club to become Premiership champions for the first time in the club's history, defeating Wasps after extra-time at Twickenham. Then, last season, he was on...

While south coast favourites Exeter City were scheduled to take on League Two strugglers and bottom club Macclesfield Town on Tuesday night, this crucial fixture was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch at the latter’s Moss Rose Stadium.

This was an important game for both sides, particularly with eighth-place Exeter currently sitting just two points off the play-off positions in League Two. The Grecians are also winless in their last three matches, since a narrow 2-1 win at Crewe Alexandra on February 23rd.

Now all attention will switch to St James Park on Saturday, when...
