Succeeding in the world of sports wagering can be difficult even for the most knowledgeable of fans. Events can take a turn on the pitch or racetrack that can ruin your bet with a click of your fingers. Sometimes the situation is completely out of your hands, although on most occasions you may have taken an obvious misstep. To you, it does not seem noticeable, but there can always be an element of bias in any decision taken.

League two side Exeter City have struggled for any form of consistency of late. One solitary win from their last five outings has seen them lose ground on the top four spots. One recurring theme that has been the highlight of their recent slump is their struggle for efficiency in front of the goal on home turf. To sum that up, Exeter have only scored more than one goal in a single match in three out of their last 10 games. With that in mind, we take a look at Exeter’s recent home games and analyze the worrying trend they must sort upfront.

Cordero extends his stay at the Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs Director of Rugby, Rob Baxter, has spoken of his delight after it was confirmed Facundo Cordero has agreed a contract extension with the reigning English and European champions.

The 22-year-old joined the Chiefs in July of last year, following in the footsteps of older brother Santiago, who enjoyed two highly successful seasons at Sandy Park, scoring 10 tries in 33 appearances.

Cordero – who can play at full-back or on the wing – made his debut for the Chiefs in last season’s Gallagher Premiership game away to Saracens.

Since then, he has featured...

Rare photos and a medal from the halcyon days of rugby will be auctioned in Chilcotts sale on April 17.

The items were discovered during a routine house clearance, bringing to light the history of one local family’s deep connection with the sport.

Initially three black and white team photographs were found. Two are of Exeter RFC team 1930-31 and 1931-32, and the other depicts the Honiton RFC team of 1935-6 pictured sitting in front of the pavilion on Allhallows Playing Fields. All the photos featured one individual named CH Beer, with Frank Beer in the Honiton picture...

Anyone would be hard pushed to think of a more infamous four and a half mile stretch than that of the Aintree steeplechase. For more than one hundred and eighty years, this particular racecourse has seen countless highpoints for racers who have gone on to make history – and, of course, the immense crowds of punters who turn their sites on those thirty fences each year.

From forty runners, the onus of choosing one winner from the line-up is on all of us. With teasers and early glimmers of insight trickling in over the preceding weeks – most recently, the five day declaration stage...

Exeter Chiefs side to face Lyon

Exeter Chiefs side to face Lyon

Rob Baxter says it’s ‘all or nothing’ for his Exeter Chiefs side as they resume the defence of their Heineken Champions Cup crown against Lyon at Sandy Park tomorrow (5:30pm).

Despite playing only one fixture so far in the competition - that ended in a comprehensive 42-0 home win against Glasgow Warriors - that bonus point victory ensured they were among the qualifiers for the new-look format to European Rugby’s premier club competition.

Having thought their hopes were severely dented when they had to concede the game against Toulouse in their second qualifying game back...

What Is It About the Grand National That Brings Everyone Together?

Authored by Simon Wells

Can you think of any sporting events that bring the country together like the Grand National Festival? Football and cricket are more popular, but they are tribal most of the time. Even the World Cup ends in disharmony when England inevitably leave early.

We’re from Exeter, which is 256 miles from Aintree Racecourse, and we’ll be just as involved on April 10th as the locals. The National has the power that other events can’t replicate, and that’s what makes it special. The...
