Free Cider and Summer Tunes Come to Devon with a Music Series from Thatchers Cider

Free pints, live music and summer vibes

Thatchers is set to delight music and cider fans heading into venues and pubs across the summer with a national 40+ gig series that will visit Devon throughout August.

A mix of Juicy Sounds DJ nights and Summer Sessions acoustic evenings will be held to celebrate what promises to be a summer filled, not just with sport, but with music too.

Events are currently planned for:

  • The Blue Ball in Exeter on Friday 7th August.

The recent project known as This City’s Centre , created by the collective Blind Ditch, has been causing quite a stir in Exeter as it is getting residents to question what lies behind their city centre. Join local artist Naomi Hart in the birds gallery at RAMM, In Fine Feather, on Wednesday 21 August between 10am and 1pm, to learn about brent geese and take part in a collaborative, worldwide, art-science project.

Exeter is an overwintering site of international importance and the geese can be found on Topsham marshes, Exminster marshes and Starcross golf course throughout the winter. Exeter: part of the World's Largest Art Gallery

The UK has become the world’s largest art gallery this summer.

The unique exhibition, Art Everywhere, has transformed thousands of poster sites and billboards into iconic artworks from the national collection.

Bus stop or brick wall, you could find art anywhere.

Exeter’s iconic painting, Portrait of an African , is included in the exhibition. Previously identified as Olaudah Equiano but probably Ignatius Sancho, and attributed to Allan Ramsay (1713-1784), Portrait of an African is now on display in the Royal Albert Memorial Museum.

Running since 2008, the Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival is back for more from 19 – 22 September, boasting a dazzling line up of well-known authors and unique workshops.

Re-viewing Exeter in moving pictures

As part of an innovative digital art and performance project, a series of new short films about Exeter are being released in weekly episodes on screens across the city as well as online. The micro-documentaries ­– 12 in total ­ have been created by filmmaker David Salas and are based on the experiences and memories of Exeter residents.

Review: Here Come The Boys

The city of Edinburgh may be in the midst of holding their annual Fringe Festival, but not to be outdone, Exeter were able to offer its own mini-fringe to local residents in the form of four boys performing their one-man shows in the Hourglass pub over six evenings last week. The title ‘Here Come The Boys’ may suggest that the participants would be removing their clothes, but I can report that no baring of flesh occurred. Sorry Ladies. However, the audience were instead treated to an interesting and eclectic evening of performances.
