The last Southernhay Breakfast Club enjoyed a talk by the charismatic Joe McNulty and co. from "Theatre Learning". Joe runs a business where actors and theatre are used to get training messages across to groups.

At this fun session, attendees were given red and green cards to 'vote' on how well they thought the actors, who improvised a scenario between a manager and employee, were dealing with an everyday work situation. Trainers Andy and Elaine might have been 'hamming it up' a little, but they definitely held the audience's attention!

Devon to continue campaign to tackle pavement parking

Devon County Council says it will continue to pursue efforts for its parking enforcement officers to be granted more powers to deal with obstructive parking.

It comes after the House of Commons withdrew a motion for a bill to end Pavement Parking.

At today's (Thursday 10 December) Full Council meeting, Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, expressed disappointment on behalf of the County Council at the decision.

The Lord's Taverners Christmas lunch this year reached peak numbers, being attended by 630 business people, resulting in the largest event ever to be hosted by Sandy Park in Exeter.

Debt still a major problem in Exeter

Many Exeter residents are still facing a daily struggle with debt despite the UK’s gradual economic recovery and a fall in the number of people seeking advice, a leading debt charity has warned.

Figures released today by StepChange Debt Charity show that 618 people in the Exeter area called its helpline for advice in the first half of 2015 with average debts of £11,202. After they had paid all their essential bills, they had an average of just £15 left each month[i].

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, today (8th December 2015) unveiled a special birthday surprise to Meg Clark from Kent who won the carrier’s recent UK-wide art competition held in support of its charity partner, Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens - her winning entry had been superimposed on to the airline’s first purple branded Embraer 195 jet!

Lack of stock continues to drive up prices

In November, 40% more chartered surveyors saw house prices rise rather than fall in the South West according to the latest RICS UK Residential Market Survey.

The general mismatch between supply and demand continues to drive growth in prices and 45% more respondents expect prices to rise further over the next three months (as opposed to a fall) – this is higher than the national balance of 33% projecting a further increase in prices.
