Exeter graduates ‘on a roll’ to save planet with launch of carbon-negative toilet paper startup

Two Exeter graduates have launched a startup producing the world's first and only carbon-negative toilet roll.

Tom Trow, who studied Business Economics at the University of Exeter Business School, and Sanmarie Grobler, who graduated with a BA in Liberal Arts, launched their startup Bazoo after feeling inspired by SMEs who go out of their way to make positive changes for the planet.

The pair graduated in July 2020 during the height of the pandemic and decided to respond to the situation by starting a company that would make a positive impact on the planet.

Exeter financial experts Old Mill have appointed Len Dean as Senior VAT Adviser.

The 43-year-old, who led the Indirect Tax practice at PwC Scotland for six years, has relocated from Stirlingshire to Somerton, with his wife Amy and four children, to join the West Country firm.

Food manufacturer Paramount 21 is increasing wages for workers at its Newton Abbot site by paying the real Living Wage, the only rate designed to meet the true cost of living.

Based on Heathfield industrial estate, the family-owned company is now an accredited Living Wage Employer. The real Living Wage, currently £9.50 per hour, is significantly higher than the government minimum for over 23s, which currently stands at £8.91 per hour.
