The Donkey Sanctuary’s stolen tractor is recovered in Ireland

A tractor stolen from the Sidmouth headquarters of the international animal welfare charity, The Donkey Sanctuary, has been recovered by the Garda in Ireland. The John Deere 6220 Loader Tractor was stolen from the charity’s Trow Farm in Sidmouth in November 2017. The vehicle has since been professionally cloned into a 6320 model to try and disguise its identity. The Donkey Sanctuary relies on its tractors to transport the donkeys’ feed and bedding, particularly over the harsh winter months. The Neonatal team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital have fought off competition from across the globe to win an international Kangaroo-a-thon.

The challenge saw the unit competing against 110 other hospitals around the world including the USA, India and Australia. The team came out on top with an incredible 1351 hours of Kangaroo care recorded over 15 days.

Kangaroo Care, named as such from the close physical contact that a kangaroo gives their young, encourages skin to skin contact between parents and their premature or sick babies.

Gas pipe investment work begins in Exeter

Wales & West Utilities is set to start a £1 million gas pipe investment scheme in the Newton St Cyres and Cowley areas of Exeter which will make sure that local homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.

Starting this week, the work will involve upgrading nearly 8 km of old metal pipes to new plastic ones on the A377 Cowley Bridge Road and adjacent roads. It will take approximately a year to complete.

Personal insolvency rates soar across the South West

The South West has been identified as having sky-high personal insolvency rates, topping other areas of the UK, including London.

Statistics reporting trends from 2000 up to 2017 recently published by The Insolvency Service that look into individual insolvencies by location, age and gender for England & Wales show an adverse reading for the South West, with the area coming out with the second highest total of bankruptcies per region in 2017. Figures show 3.9 per 10,000 adults becoming bankrupt, which is an increase on the previous year and above the national average.

First look inside Vospers £12m Exeter supersite

Vospers have released the first interior images of their new 61,215 square foot state of the art facility in Exeter, destined to open late 2018.

The supersite at Matford will include five state of the art showrooms for Ford, Mazda, Fiat, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, all with the latest corporate identity and futuristic technology to aid customers in making a purchasing decision.

New research has revealed that 45% of people in the South West have felt bullied by a boss throughout their careers, and a huge 87% said they would confront their boss if they thought they were in the wrong.

The survey of more than 1,000 employees was carried out by UK printing supply company TonerGiant . Interestingly, 42% of the South West see their boss as a friend, but not a close one.

Households in East Devon will soon be receiving a form asking residents to check whether the information that appears on the electoral register for those living at their address is correct as part of East Devon’s annual voter registration canvass.
