Water Babies set to make a splash in China

Devon-based company Water Babies is making one of the UK’s most unusual exports to China a reality in the coming months.

‘Saved’ woodland becomes charity’s 50th wildlife haven

A woodland which was saved from development has become Devon Wildlife Trust’s 50th nature reserve.

New England Wood covers 50 acres at Lee Mill, half a mile from the A38 and seven miles to the east of Plymouth. Described as a ‘charming, broadleaved woodland’, the new nature reserve also has the River Yealm passing beneath its trees.

Workplaces across Devon are being challenged to walk the equivalent of the circumference of the earth - a grand total of 24,901 miles for a month long walking campaign called the Big Devon March.

The Big Devon March is being run by Active Devon on behalf of Devon County Council and it is inspiring workplaces to get creative, make some simple changes and get employees moving more.

Exeter's Bridge Road to close this weekend

Major road reconstruction will be carried during this weekend's planned closure of Bridge Road in Exeter.

The road will be closed from 10pm on Friday 3 March until 5am on Monday 6 March, to enable the area south of the canal bridges to be resurfaced.

The existing carriageway, which is suffering structural failure, will be dug up and entirely re-laid, along with the widened section on the west side which will form part of the final four-lane layout.

Stiffer penalties for using mobile devices while driving

Drivers caught using their mobile phone behind the wheel now face tougher penalties.

From today (1 March 2017) both the fine and penalty points will double - from £100 to £200 and from 3 to 6 points.

Between 1 and 7 March Devon and Cornwall Police and Dorset Police roads policing alliance will be out on the region’s roads ensuring compliance with the new legislation. The option of taking an awareness course and not receiving points on the driving license will no longer be offered.

More electric bikes in the city

Co-bikes, the ground-breaking self-service bike scheme, is introducing the latest stage in its mission to create easy, enjoyable travel in Exeter's city centre.
