Student volunteers help Exeter’s homeless by distributing excess campus food

Students from the University of Exeter are joining forces with a local charity by distributing unsold food to the city’s homeless community.

The Food Action Project focuses on reducing the amount of edible food within the sell-by-date that goes unsold in shops, cafes and restaurants across the University, whilst also helping those who struggle daily for food within the city.

Organiser Alec James, VP Welfare and Diversity for the Student’s Guild and former Geography student, hopes that food outlets across Exeter will eventually join the project.

Exeter College has been named as one of the best places to work in the UK, according to The Sunday Times.

The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies is an annual ranking of the best workplaces measuring workforce motivation, happiness and engagement. Exeter College has been ranked as a Top 100 employer in The Sunday Times 100 Best Not-For-Profit Organisations to Work For 2017.

Devon residents can win a composting bin if they pledge online to recycle their kitchen and garden waste.

One hundred composting bins and other prizes, including a wormery, a food waste gadget kit and a gardening hamper can be won in the draw which closes on Sunday 2 April 2017.

Exeter Scouts and Guides will be “Riding along on the crest of a wave” again this Easter, as Exeter Gang Show returns to the Barnfield Theatre, Exeter from the 5th to the 8th April 2017.

Now in its 33rd year, the show will be packed full of popular songs, expert choreography and laugh out load sketches, and has everything to keep audience members of any age entertained.
