Devon and Cornwall Police launch UK's first operational drone unit

Devon & Cornwall and Dorset Police have become the first police forces in the UK to launch a fully operational drone unit.

The latest in drone technology has been trialled in the respective forces since November 2015 and such has been their benefit, an operational drone unit has been created; the first of its kind in the UK.

Business Awards for The Cricket Company

At the 2017 Business Awards run by 373 Group, The Cricket Company were nominated in two categories - Best Retail and Best Customer Service.

Charity volunteers prepare for a digital revolution

The national chair of trustees of Samaritans has told volunteers in Exeter to prepare for a digital revolution as the charity embarks on a modernisation programme.

Jenni McCartney - a former business development consultant and a Samaritans volunteer for over 25 years - told volunteers of the Exeter Mid and East Devon branch that the charity must modernise to cope with growing demand for its services.

Devon kidney patients invited to find out more about home dialysis therapies and transportable dialysis machines

Kidney specialists at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital are putting on a series of public information events around Devon and Somerset about home dialysis treatments and the opportunities this can present for patients, including the ability to travel.

The events are being held in July in Torbay, Honiton, Barnstaple, Taunton and Exeter. Drainage improvements on A373 due to be completed this month

Work is underway on drainage improvements on the A373 between Honiton and Cullompton.

The scheme will address standing water issues at three locations along the road, with work at all three sites expected to be completed by the end of July. Work has started at Came Cross/Crammer Barton to install a new drainage system which will reduce surface water run-off in this area. Access is available from the Cullompton end of the A373 as far as Crammer Barton and from the Honiton end as far as Colliton. Football boosts bone development in boys

Playing football can improve bone development in adolescent boys, new research shows.

In a study comparing adolescent footballers to swimmers, cyclists and a control group of boys not involved in regular sport, scientists at the University of Exeter found football led to significantly better bones after one year of training.

Rob Baxter insists there is a “burning desire” amongst the Exeter Chiefs coaching staff to take the Devon club onto even greater things in the future, after he and his three trusty lieutenants - Ali Hepher, Rob Hunter and Ricky Pellow - today all agreed new three-year deals with the Aviva Premiership champions.
