Thousads of people will show their support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) communities in the region by attending the 10th Exeter Pride event on Saturday, May 12.

Exeter Pride is one of the South West's biggest celebrations of the LGBTQ+ communities, and one of the biggest free Pride events in the country. It promises to be an explosion of colour, positivity and pride - and everyone is invited to come out and celebrate.

Road users are being encouraged to plan their journeys into and around Exeter on Thursday 10 May when the new IKEA store opens to the public.

Increased traffic volumes are anticipated on the major routes into the city, especially on the M5 at Junction 30 Sandygate roundabout and the A379 leading to the new store. Additional traffic may potentially lead to disruption and longer than average delays in the area surrounding the new store.

£250,000 funding boost to investigate whether vitamin D promotes brain health

A robust clinical trial to investigate whether taking vitamin D can help keep our brains sharp in older age has been supported by a donation of nearly £250,000 from the J P Moulton Charitable Foundation.

The University of Exeter Medical School will conduct a three-year study on whether vitamin D can improve brain health in people at risk of dementia. Using the PROTECT online study of people aged 50 and over, the trial will assess whether supplements could help to prevent decline in memory and other cognitive functions.

Exeter Phoenix has revealed plans to make six new moving image works after announcing the winners of its 2018 film commissions. Ideas for new short films were invited from artists and filmmakers from all over the South West before the six final filmmakers and artists were chosen. Duncan Lyster, a fourth year physics student at the University of Exeter, UK, has founded his own hand-crafted, wooden surfboard company.

With help from Think Try Do, a University initiative that helps undergraduates make the connections to found their own start-ups, Duncan Lyster has founded Lyster Surfcraft, creating lightweight wooden surfboards that perform as well as their polyurethane equivalents.

Jack Sadler Award presented to Head of Exeter School's RAF Section

The Head of Exeter School's Royal Air Force section has been awarded the Jack Sadler Award for her outstanding contribution to the Combined Cadet Force contingent (CCF).

Flight Sergeant Meredith Marsh was presented with the brass trophy of an artillery shell case and an engraved medal by Commander Katharine Armstrong (RN) during the biennial CCF inspection on 27 April.

Local care home celebrates high scores in recent Your Care Rating survey

Residents at Lucerne House care home in Exeter, are celebrating after it performed strongly in a nationwide survey of care home residents and their family members and friends.

The results, launched today, show Lucerne House was given an Overall Performance Rating (OPR) score of 924 out of 1,000 by residents, an improvement of 31 points from last year, and 865 by their family members and friends, an improvement of 23 on last year.
